Theres some places around south county that are extremely trashed up....# 1 trashed up place is the wakefield herring run.. you wouldnt believe what is down there underneath the falls:smash:

Cheferson had this idea a week or 2 ago and I'm bringing it up agian....

Anyone want to participate in a cleanup?? Chef has a truck, I have a truck...
I'm sure I can find some havy duty garbage bags...

whoever picks up the most trash gets to keep the beautiful flexible flyer sled thats in 3 feet of water under the mainstreet bridge:D

I'm thinking next weekend..

who wants to help the herring???? I do :D

Eben,
I'll try to be there, but I'm having some truck problems. In fact if we do it on Sat. I might be able to kill two birds with one stone. Do you know if the service dept at wakefield Chevy is open on Sat.?
I'll definately be at the west wal with RISAA, I did it last year. If anyone is going to go, bring a sgarp knife and.or a hacksaw blade, its the only way to get some of that rope out of the rocks.

Looking for a bargain? This week Sports Authority has a coupon for 25% off any single item in the store, I think this is good until 3/27.

I just cleaned up at Sports Authority this past weekend. They were having a huge clearance sale on certain items 50% off. I scored a 12x7 Coleman tent for $30 as well as other camping gear. Unfortunately the only dept. that didn't have any clearance was the fishing dept.

All right.... lets shoot for sunday at 10:00 a.m.

This isn't the holy grail of herring runs by the way, its been struggling for some years. If you are in Mass and are wanting to find a new run, this is not the one for you... I'm serious... I've had to wait hours and hours just to grab 3 or 4. :smash: But, with some help in the form of taking the trash out of the run and cleaning it up in general, who knows, it might help:huh:

anyone who wants to participate p.m. me and I'll give you directions

Mako Mike, I have no idea about the chevy guys...:(

Funny,
I thought I posted the Sports Auth. post above in the job lot thread, weird....

Guys thank you for helping to clean up South County, it's too bad it's up to the residents to do it because the town workers are too busy playing cards or watching tv. I pick up trash every week on my way to work, and it's amazing how people passing you give you a look like your insane or something.

Wish I could help this weekend but it's a real busy one for me.

as pointed out earlier in this thread I will be leading the RISAA juniors committee group starting at Saltie Brine beach behind Georges. This group could use a few more bodies. So far we're a little slow with committments.

I'm also the Chairman of the Junior Activities Committee and if there are any fishing people here who would like to get their kids involved junior membership is free in RISAA and we're looking to get some nice activities going this year. I will even be doing a plug building day for the kids at my house and donating the materials. The kids can each build 2 one for themselves and one for a parent/friend.

Please come out to the clean up day. We can use the help and DEM will have dump trucks and plenty of bags available.

179 I know i know what do we pay taxes for : 4 of a kind with an ace kicker for 4th street . or maybe just so one of the state workers could yell GO FISH .

I would love to help but have plenty of shoreline here in CT that is a dumping ground .

Nebe

chef thats great, we'll use those tags. I went by there today and there was mucho agua flowing over the falls which has washed some of the trash away but there's still a bunch of junk.... road cones, drywall tape hanging from trees, sleds.... all kinds of wierd stuff.

I went to the falls today and took a sniff sniff to see what was going on and it looks like 50% of the trash and crap has been washed down stream and will eventually end up on Goosefish's Oyster lease...... sorry goosefish:huh:

Theres still some junk there though and with a few guys we should get it cleaned up in about a half hour....

It also looks like the river walk boardwalk project is about to get started because there are now a bunch of hay bails all over the river bank....

Good Work Eben and others. The public needs to know that the fishermen are the ones who take care of the shore and not the ones who polute it. Keep up the good work.
