Never used one, but I know that they have reputation for being well made, workhorse reels. I don't think that they'd be practical for plugging because of the way you have to flip the spool back and forth to cast and retrieve, but I suppose they're okay for bait fishing. I've been meaning to buy one for years, sort of as a novelty, but I've always found other, more practical stuff to spend my money on.If your looking just to try something new and different, I'd say give it a whirl.

They use these outfits down under for distance casting, and regularly cast 100 meters.

It sounded like just the ticket for reaching those fish that are always just out of reach, so a buddy picked up an outfit. We both tried casting it but didn't do any better than we could with a spin rod. Guess it takes a knack and practice. Guess I'm saying don't buy one and go out expecting to cast 100 meters right away.
