What are you wanting to do with the new one in the canal? Plugs....or 4 and 5oz jigging? CANAL RAT 04-03-2004, 06:50 PM i am mostly fishing lures and jigs Stewie 04-03-2004, 07:15 PM for really light stuff(less than 1 or 1 1/4 oz) buy an Abu 6500. For heavy stuff an Abu 7000 or 7000C3. If you don't mind leveling the line yourself maybe a Penn 525 mag. The Penn has a very fast retrieve which might be handy jigging the canal. MAC 04-04-2004, 05:56 AM I would go with the Abu 7000. The penn mag will be too fast for a beginner IMHO chris L 04-04-2004, 10:56 AM if you can find one a BG7000CL has a 5.3:1 gear ratio . they were discontinued ??????? for reasons unfathonable . thefishingfreak 04-04-2004, 01:28 PM hey whats the penn mag? i'de like to check it out for school tuna. mike Stewie 04-04-2004, 05:20 PM The Penn 525Mag is a little bigger in spool size than an Abu 6500. It has monster gears I think 5:1 or 6:1 ratio and casts really nice. No levelwind though, you gotta level it yerself. mikecc 04-04-2004, 05:50 PM 525 Mag Tagger 04-04-2004, 06:56 PM I started with a penn 140 ...cheap .. use later as back up thefishingfreak 04-04-2004, 08:02 PM is that what they call the penn speedmaster? think the drag could take a couple sm. sharks and an occasional school tuna. thanks for the help. mike vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
