Uhhhh...how do you know if you've got a broken toe?

And no, I didn't go back for a Sunday Habby Hour - I can't keep that kinda pace anymore anyway.

I was working in the yard this afternoon and had the dogs with me - the 5 mo. old puppy got ahold of some leaves from a bush that makes her hurl something wicked so I was chasing her to get it outta her mouth and BAM! - I took the forward header of the century with a half twist chasing her up the deck stairs and careened off a support post - my feet were muddy and the deck was wet, it was a freakin' beauty.

So anyway, I'm sitting here, my toe is getting blacker and hurts like hell, can't put any weight on it - the knuckles on my right hand are swollen (just like the old days) and I got a cut on my left. Christ, I thought I had broken a finger, too.

I hope the sonovabitch ain't broken - but if you see a guy at Wachusett next week with a walker and a sand spike duct-taped to it, you'll know what happened.

Goddammit :af: :af: :af:

So anyway:

1. Whaddya think - is it broke?

2. Do I need to start looking for a boat and stay the hell off the rocks? :err:

Ah the shame of it, I can't believe I just said that....this is mortifyin', boats, the beginning of the end!

Ah, Jesus Mary and Joseph, the next thing ya know, I'll be sittin' down to pee and I'll be left behind with the squaws and kids.

Awww just great - I can see it now. Chuck walking down the streets of Quaintsville wrapped in nothing but bubble wrap asking passersby if his black toe is broke

Hey Chuck, could be F.E.B. - go see a doc or at least Striprman

Crafty, broken bones, potential or not, ain't no small trifle (had a front who almost died b/c of a blot clot that way) - please go get it checked out by a doc.

Go to Aidians and have a corned beef sandwich and a Guinness. You’ll feel much better.

Hey, Slip, I might be down but I ain't out.

I went to the doc, he said the x-rays showed no fractures, he thought they might have. So it looks like I'm gonna live. It's just a stunning shade of purple today and apparently won't interfere with trout Saturday :p

Thanks for the advice, boys and girls - Mrs. Crafty liked the bubble wrap the best.

She thought that was a real hoot.

Thanks Eben -

I don't know about 2 weeks, I may actually find that I've made a remarkable recovery by late Friday, and really don't see any reason why I couldn't go out for trout on Saturday. :p

In fact, I just might try Aiden's for lunch tomorrow and see if a corned beef on rye helps. A Black and Tan is really just an Irish analgesic anyway. :) Thanks, Joe - great idea!

thats what my foot therapists always drilled into my head , crafty.

it stands for rest.....ice.....circulation....elevation ....your foot needing to be higher than your heart...ice for 20 minutes per application then wait like 30 minutes. plenty of fluids for circulation.
get some crutches and then cut the legs or arms off of a pair of old sweat pants or a sweat shirt and use them to make a soft pad on those damned rubber arm pit erasers for easier travelin. put the narrow end on first and wrap them round and round and then fold over the top....get well soon ps dont forget some vitamin C to make the blue toe change color again.

Yeah, you're right Raven - feets up does the trick. The swelling has gone down somewhat but I've had to work on my feet today so I guess it's a wash.

Anyway, it ain't broken - that's the good news, possibly missing the start of the season had me bummin' -

I take a lot of vitamins anyway - sorta like puttin' Slick 50 into an old car with 200K on it :p - man, I had no idea I was gonna live this long. I had an old Italian friend who used to say "Penze la salut" every time we'd hoist a drink - it means "think of your health' - he was a very wise man. So I'm just gonna do that and maybe continue to hang out on the rocks like another friend who still does at 82 (!)

Anyway, from all indications, I'm gonna live, it was no big deal.

The nurse told me my BP was 128/72 - I said "Not bad for an old guy' and she said "Hell, that'd be good for a young guy. Gonna get all the other old phart tests done too tomorrow while I'm at it. The 200 K checkup, ya know.

Christ, speakin' of old pharts - hey John, let's move this to the GOP forum - it's way past front page news.

Anyway, thanks, everybody - see ya on the rocks soon - or over in the GOP, maybe - I'll be the guy with the Medic Alert taped to his necklight.
