Stiffy Push Poles, seems to be the choice of most flats guides now?
You can get a heavy fiberglass pole for around 250.00, the graphite run around 900.00.

Yah, I was looking a couple years ago and thought it was pretty ridiculous. $250 was cheaper than I saw at that time... I didn't find anything under 320.

I ended up just getting this 12' telescopic aluminum one from BPS for $35. It works well for adjusting my drift and poling without alot of wind. Its too short to move into the wind and current.

Actually Scotch, I don't think most yuppy flyfisherman would buy a pole, they just go out with guides who buy the poles.

Just made one 16' long.went to job lot they have a tree prunning

set up that extends to 14' bought 2 the bigger dia. poles are 7' long used one of the smaller poles to connect the two, only extended it 2'. now I will wrap fiberglass and build up the smaller pole to the larger one.should work,'total cost $44 did not figure in fiberglass cloth and resin, but it a lot cheaper then a Stiffy. The inside dia is 11/4" the mud tip for a Stiffy should fit.

Scotch Bonnet--I aint no yuppy fly fisherman, but your right about that stuff, but remember just because you own a boat they think your RICH.

I don't think you will ever see a professional guide, or a serious flats fisherman, that is poleing a boat 7 days a week using a home made pole.
You need sturdy and light.
