what happens when you back up data on the same cd you used before.
does it copy right over it and if its different data does it erase the first data

unless things have changed, cd's can only be written to once.

If your using Re-Writables you can treat it like your Hard-Drive and keep writing, deleting and moving Data around. You do need a CDR-RW drive to use these.

As far as the backup erasing the data it all depends on how you have your back-up setup. It can over-write or it can append the data. If you just dragging and dropping folders then your overwriting whats there.

I have quickbooks pro at the office and home when we change something here I have to backit up bring it home and restore it on my home computer now everytime we change one of the computers we have to do the process all over its gonna use alot of cds.

Mr. Macey, get a USB flash drive/thumb drive, they've gotten pretty cheap and are a breeze to use. Its just like a hard drive in your explorer directory, unplug it, bring it home, plug it in. About the size of a pack of gum and you can get 512 MB

are you running windows XP at both home and at the office?


there are a few solutions to a "portable" backup...

cdr's/cdr-rw's/zip/jazz/flash.... each one has it's pro's and con's...

I personally use my digital camera for transfering data between 2 computers... it only works well with xp though..

xp recognizes the digital camera as a removable disk.. so if you have a 128 disk card.. then you have a portable 128 drive...

i haven't used cdr-rw's in years(2) i don't trust them.. i've seen 1000+ engineering hours lost in a CAD file upgrade.... you can rewrite but how often the mfg say's ### but that varies by burner.. some burners are stronger then others ......

zip and jazz can not take a fall.. lol.. nuff said with those...

flash is just like the camera but it's dedicated to do just as it described to do... transfer data between machines...it's nice and all... but if you go that route spend the extra $$ for a USB 2.0 drive... just make sure the USB 2.0 drive has a data transfer speed of 480Mb/s if it say's it's only 12Mb/s then it's a 1.1 piece of technology.....

thats a cool idea the camera now to figure how to do it i am really iliterate when it comes to this stuff but i know how to load and unload pics where would i start with helps on how to transfer data from camera to computer. thanks yes i use xp on both puters

Just tell quick books to save it in the directory you create on your camera... when you get home.. make sure you plug your camera first before running quickbooks so quickbooks will know it's there..
