I'm getting a 706z for plugging and eels, and reading through the archives it sounds like everyone is using Fireline instead of PowerPro on this reel.

Can anyone comment on the new Fireline XDS? It looks to be much tougher...or should I just stick with the original?

thanks,

Will not try it, way too expensive a 300 yard spool is 40 bucks. I used Fireline for the first time this year and I really like it. I don't understand why it is that much more expensive than the regular.

Wow, I didn't even look at the cost. It is supposed to be twice as abrasion resistant...

I don't believe that, and besides, is that really worth doubleing the cost?

I might try it when my 6 year supply of the reg. fireline runs out

Sure doesn't sound like it. Two stong negatives are enough for me...

How much backing do you guys use on a larger capacity reel? With powerpro I've filled them mostly up...

thanks,

Spence--on a 706, wind on just enough mono to fully cover the arbor, then 300 yards of 30# Fireline will fit perfectly

Regular Fireline ain't broke---don't let the sales folks at Berkley try to convince you it needed to be "fixed". :smash:
