View Full Version : 4 leg dates
Saltheart 04-15-2004, 08:11 AM I'm thinking we should start to nail down dates for the 4 leg barbecues and tourneys.
I would start by suggesting Sat June 5 for the first RI leg and Saturday June 19 for the first MA leg. These are good weekends relative to tides and the 19th is the day before father's day so hopefully people get a lot of slack that weekend to attend that one.
Let the discussions begin.
BTW , I epxect to get something over thirty pounds on the MA leg so just start targeting bigger than that if you want any hope of winning this year!! :)
Slipknot 04-16-2004, 08:34 AM Sounds like 2 good possibilities for dates Saltheart :btu:
The Dad Fisherman 04-16-2004, 08:43 AM Tell me this ain't Murphy's law. I only have 2 things written on the calendar for June and you nailed'em Both...that's my luck
STEVE IN MASS 04-16-2004, 08:52 AM 6/5 is fine by me......the other date, well, my Hatteras trip wipes out the last three weekends in June for me anyway, so.........
Krispy 04-16-2004, 08:55 AM sounds good to me
TheSpecialist 04-16-2004, 08:59 AM I like it.....
JohnR 04-16-2004, 09:17 AM I was tentatively planning:
Rhody - Saturday June 19 - 2 days after the new moon, 10:30 high tide
Mass Leg Choices:
Saturday July 10th - just after 3/4 moon - 7:30 high tide Cape -
Saturday July 17th - new moon - 7:30 high tide Cape -
NilsC 04-16-2004, 09:20 AM I like the June 19 date for Rhody leg. :D
Saltheart 04-16-2004, 12:31 PM July is way late for the Mass legs IMO except way out the Cape or north near plymouth/Hull , etc. The fishing in the southeat Mass area will slow r down end of June and especially after the comms start depleteing the area July 5.
MountainBreeze 04-16-2004, 12:42 PM Here's another vote for the June 19th Rhody leg!
Hopefully, I'll finally make it to one of these shin-digs!!!
Note to self:

Moses 04-16-2004, 02:53 PM For those who joined the S-B community in the recent past, what exactly are these events? Any details you all could share on format, rules, etc? Thanks.

that wouldn't work as the legs are C&R, while the MDA is a kill tourney.
Mr. Sandman 04-16-2004, 05:54 PM Moses is right. To be honest, I never understood this leg thing other then it is a weekend contest in different areas. We need a formal write up on what this is.
BP thanks for that synopsis of what is happening in 04. We should take more advantage of the calendar featurs of this site. This is good info.

I'll try to explain the 4-leg tourney.
Saltheart won it last year so brush up on your fishing if you want to knock him off :)
Basically, we all get together for these meetings at a designated place 4 times a year. The idea is to pair up and fish catch and release, have your fish witnessed by a member before release. You don't have to go to all 4 legs but the more you attend the better your chances. You need a 36" fish to qualify for entry.
2 legs in Mass. and 2 legs in RI, 1 each in spring and fall. Usually the RI one is before the Mass. in the spring and after the Mass. in the fall. We get together on a Sat. and burn some perfectly good meat and chow down then split up and fish. Last few times we met at M&D's in Wareham for the Mass. leg. It's fun to meet members and put a face with the name. And it is all shore fishing, no boats.
Canalman 04-18-2004, 09:32 AM I like both dates Saltheart suggested... I hope we can get them set soon as I need to get days off WAY in advance :D. July is too late for Mass IMHO..

yep, I Agree
Notaro 04-18-2004, 10:50 PM Those dates for Rhody or MA is fine with me. I expect myself to partipicate this leg with you guys. Maybe I will bring a tray of chinese spareribs from Chinatown.
Canalman 04-19-2004, 05:33 PM boink
If June 5 is the date for the RI leg, I will be meeting up with some of you later on. There will be a baby birthday party also going on that day as well. Once all the kids melt down and leave, I'll help clean up and find my way to the water.
Notaro 04-20-2004, 11:14 AM Then I need to start finding some partners for the 4 legs to join or to ask to join me.
Saltheart 04-21-2004, 03:06 PM Not as much input as I expected. Too early to plan? I think its best to nail down at least the dates for the first two legs as early as possible.
For those who are new here , the 4 leg barbecues are big events with lots of good food and a chance to meet really nice people and some excellent fisherman. You really want to try to make at least one and if possible , all of them, They are lots of fun!
missing link 04-21-2004, 03:12 PM **EDIT** June 19 sounds good to me
Saltheart 04-21-2004, 03:40 PM Duh? Its always on a weekend. The barbecue is on a Saturday. The whole point of this thread is to decide which weekend.
Fishpart 04-22-2004, 07:21 AM I would say that Mid July is a little late for a Mass Leg. Not knowing the tides, I agree with fishing the weekend of June 25 for the Mass Leg...
TheSpecialist 04-22-2004, 07:28 AM John I think we just need to set the dates, so people can plan ahead. Past history shows us that not everyone will be able to make it, but more than enough will show. I agree with the dates in June, but I could make anything if given enough notice. :)
tlapinski 04-22-2004, 07:33 AM i like the idea of July for the cape, except for the traffic. i have only fished it in june and september and that has been bad enough! any time in june except for the weekend of the MS tourney is good for the RI leg.
NilsC 04-22-2004, 11:41 AM JohnR,
why don't you (or Saltheart) create 2 polls 1 poll for dates in CT and second poll for dates in MA. Whatever dates with the most votes win...:D
Pick 2 or 3 dates for each use dates that are agreeable with JohnR and lets vote...

and NO Florida counting.
Notaro 04-22-2004, 11:47 AM Good idea, Nilsc.
pops02 04-22-2004, 12:24 PM July in Ma. would be too late
JohnR 04-22-2004, 12:28 PM Lemme confirm with the missus and make sure we have nothing going on with those dates....
:D
Thanks!

partsjay 05-25-2006, 02:45 PM Whenever the dates are.....I'm in. Been trying to make one of these events for about 2 years...no excuses this year....
1 question is....when and how do we hook up with fishing partners? Is it done at the leg? I just don't know many people in person from the board.
Is anybody interested in pairing up?
