View Full Version : Fishing Snacks
Christian 04-15-2004, 10:32 AM what are your favorite fishing snacks?
me-
milky ways
sunflower seeds
gummy worms
i always like having somthing to munch on and with enough milkyways and gummy worms you can have a crude meal. sunflower seeds are great for wading, just throw a bunch in your cheek and your set.
blackeye 04-15-2004, 10:35 AM jelly sticks and coffee
peanut butter crackers
dried crusty herring
Krispy 04-15-2004, 10:37 AM Xanax and Camel Lights :hee: :smokin:
The Dad Fisherman 04-15-2004, 10:39 AM I just like to lick the mackerel and Herring guts off of my fingers...MMMMM...MMMMM...Good
Actually I don't eat when I fish. I enjoy eating too much and it tends to distract me from the task at hand. :D
I do remember my Grandfather would always bring a dozen hard-boiled eggs w/ him whenever he went fishing. Thats what I always think about when I see HB Eggs nowadays. I don't know if thats an Old-timer thing or just something he did...But my father does it too
rizzo 04-15-2004, 10:43 AM power bars, different kinds of candy, granola bars

I love getting a coffee and drivng down Rt. 2 enroute to the south shore - I like that part almost as much as fishing.
JPowers 04-15-2004, 11:02 AM Snickers bars - the BIG ones. Gives ya an sugar/energy shot that can spike ya for 1+ hours.

no wonder u stay thin.
My snacks are:
-orbit gums
-water
Both of them are for beach fishing
At the pier like rockport:
Roy's 1/2 lbs lobster meats, one fishcake or two, one stuffed clam. Now, thats a bad eating and dieting...
sully12rng 04-15-2004, 11:11 AM Joe you are so right I love the car ride with a coffee in the morning. I made the trip to CT. this weekend and the only company I had was a lg dunkins.
rizzo 04-15-2004, 11:13 AM hey notaro, i guess im in decent shape, but what i really like about those snacks is that theyre semi waterproof in their wrappers and theyre pretty easy to eat when your a mile from the car on some sketchy rocks. After i'm done fishin ill always hit up somewhere for a big meal.
BigFish 04-15-2004, 11:14 AM Coffee....chocolate chip granola bars....coffee, donuts....coffee!:gu: Water, coke, and more coffee.:D

I hate donuts. But it's best to eat donuts than any breakfast sandwich when going on a boating trip. It seems that we all have carb-addictive added on our snacks. Rizzo is the one who is eating healthy here. I don't carry snacks with me when fishing a canal, beach, or somewhere. I eat before I go fishing.
spinncognito 04-15-2004, 11:18 AM Oreos (double stuffed) and some :spam:
Notaro 04-15-2004, 11:20 AM One way to have a snack is to get an empty japanese plum wine bottle/jar, fill it up w/ water, half a dozen lemon slices, and pour a quarter of organic honey, and then shake it and mix it up. u will feel stuffed and urged to piss in ur wader.
rizzo 04-15-2004, 11:20 AM notaro-arent granola bars, candy and powerbars loaded with carbs too? how do you know i eat healthy based by that?
TBone 04-15-2004, 11:21 AM Coffee before hand and when that wears off Red Bulls and Combos (Cheddar Cheese pretzel). Red bulls will keep you going ALL night.

u are entiled to have a little carbs. but if the carbs contained many nuritient values, then theya re fine, but some contain addictives and non-organic stuffs, oh well. i eat peanut kind bars. to tell you the truth, high carb food tend to make me feel bloated or fat. when i work out, it takes a while for my body to break down the sweat.
Rappin Mikey 04-15-2004, 11:29 AM Beer and Donuts (thankyou Mckenzie brothers) Hoser!
roadkill (possums, raccoons, and other marsupials)
BlitzinBlues 04-15-2004, 11:46 AM screwdrivers and homecut donuts
Sparfish 04-15-2004, 11:47 AM A Blunt(or two), Jack and Ginger, and maybe some penutbutter cups!
RIROCKHOUND 04-15-2004, 11:52 AM I third the coffee for the ride... especially for pre-dawn patrols, I love getting to a spot, and just looking at the water for a min, coffee in hand... anticipation in my heart... Also, if I'm doing the late shift, a thermos of coffee does wonders at sunrise, same feeling as above, if it's been all night I generally just sit/stand coffee in hand and rod at my side just in case....
As far as food... zone bars rock, especially for breakfast in the early AM....late nights... beef jerky.. mmm mmm good.. and occasionally in the fall I throw a 12oz of something of the adult beverage nature in my bag... for the walk back, I dont really drink and fish, but at 2am, a cold beer walking back to the car is a nice treat, especially with large in the other hand...
Flaptail 04-15-2004, 12:26 PM Mounds bars on Ice, Arizona Ice tea and kittens.......................:D
MakoMike 04-15-2004, 12:29 PM Beer & Pretzles! The breakfast of champions
smooth53_98 04-15-2004, 12:43 PM Early morning - coffee and a pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich
Afternoon/Night - Water, sunflower seeds, pistachios, peanuts, turkey sub with the works.
Overnight - lots of coffee and anything with sugar!
Rappin Mikey 04-15-2004, 12:48 PM Notaro, what kind of carbs are "addictive"? I have enough addictions, let me know so I can steer clear.
BasicPatrick 04-15-2004, 01:36 PM I NEVER go to the waters edge with rod in hand unless I have a nice cheapo two for a dollar honey bun or three with me...
As far as coffee...this life giving liquid is not in the class of fishing snacks...it should be right there on the list between rod & reel
RIROCKHOUND 04-15-2004, 01:42 PM Amen... I used to have a tiny 12oz thermos that fit in the side pocket of my surf bag.... cant find it anymore... :-( maybe job lot still has some from two years ago....
redlite 04-15-2004, 02:23 PM Jolt
Poor Man's Crack. A.K.A Red Bull
Snicker's Crunch
Milky Ways.
This is about all I eat for 5 months of the year. I'm a model of good health. Can't eat too much when fishin or you'll be up in the dunes dumpin. And also if you are straving hungry, it is tough to fall asleep, especially when driving home. The candy bars are edible even after you've been sumberged or they have melted in your pocket.
Tey need a pizza delivery place out on the beach.
ReelChitty 04-15-2004, 03:12 PM Coffee Cakes
Grinder
Amp energy drink(to chug)

Jamie M 04-15-2004, 03:27 PM Frozen Snickers candy bars, and a couple of ice-cold Bass Ales in the shoulder cooler. I might not be able to catch 'em, but I can sure as hell drink 'em...
RickBomba 04-15-2004, 04:15 PM Forget what Mikey said about the donuts, give me beers, Zan's and Camel lights.
I on the other hand, think the best fishing food of all time is a Nelson's breakfast sandwich on Portugese with Linguica!
Hope they still make'em.
Later,
Rick

High frosouse (sp?) food or items over 2 grams, donuts, rich starchy food, candy bars, white stuffs (bread, bagel, PASTA), too many food to name a lot. I have some info, but I'm doing my homework now. I will PM you if you want, RM... PS: don't drink a lot of beer, a bottle of beer equals 48 grams of carbs (thst's not good for the heart and stomach). I don't drink beers...either does Bassman18. Ask him about the night he drank before the day we went with CAL to the MSBA Expo. You should have seen him reacting to the word, "BEERS..." :laughs:
Oh another thing, I like wine coolers (so what if I like it:p ?). I drink when I get home from a fishing trip. One of my so-called greatest time when I was fishing for scup and teaching my dad how to cast and not to hit me with the rig in my eye(!). My mom asked me if I wanted a wine cooler and I answered to her in a nod. Then I landed a 1 lbs bluefish and drink at the same time. That was the pasttime.
quick decision 04-16-2004, 06:16 AM I like lots of water, my cuban cigars, and some beer for the end of the day.
Notaro 04-16-2004, 07:42 AM Cuban cigars aren't snacks. They ae to ward the bugs off us.

angler management 04-16-2004, 12:39 PM I agree with all the candy!
But no one mentioned Beef Jerky!
Good to chew on!
Moose Nuckle 04-16-2004, 04:52 PM I agree the coffee should be there with your rod and reel.
Breakfast is Black ice coffee with sugar. Two bagels with cream cheese.
Lunch is cold pizza or a raost beef sub.
Night time is chicken, steak tips, sausages peppers and onions all cooked on the grill. Some Capt. Morgans to wash it down with.

CT_Surfrat 04-17-2004, 08:55 AM Who has time to eat while fishing??? However, the official snack food of the CT Surfcasters has always been a large Snickers bar purchased at the all night Mobil at Dunns Corner. The official drink used to be Cappio but they don't make that anymore so Mountain Dew has taken its place. Sugar and caffiene MMmmmm
