Just to put the record straight Red Gills are still produced in Cornwall U.K. as they have been since 1968. When my father first produced them, my older brother who was running the business unfortunately died suddenly in August 2003. The firm is currently being managed by a family friend and is doing very well, if the guy from rhode Island has bought the rights to Red Gill I sure haven't seen the cheque yet!We have being supplying RichS for quite a while now and hopefully may be able to reach an agreement to get them produced in the US to cope with demand as we are already stretched to cover our European markets.

I was a little skeptical when I saw the tails said Gillies instead of Red Gill. That said I think the fakes do look just as good as the originals. Looks like a lawsuit might be coming.

That is a good question, I bought some from Saltwater Edge this fall but now they don't have them up on their website anymore.

Anybody from SWE know if you are getting more in?

http://www.redgilllures.com/

Here's a link to the site and they have pics of the RI "Gillies".

IMHO, I don't think they look as good as the originals. There are some differences. For one, they don't have the hole in the tail.

I don't know how they swim compared to the originals, but I have some of each (bought the RI red gills at the Prov. Show) and will compare them.

Fellas,

I don't do too much of wipping rubber, just a bit. Mostly jigging and tubing and chunking.

But isn't most rubber kind of the same. These Redgills....will they outfish a ledgerunner rubber or a big 9" sluggo or my favorite the Storm shads.

With the fisherman imparting a bit of action does one tremendously outfish the other???

Any thoughts....

From what I've learned there are so many other things to screw up that which rubber you choose won't make a difference as long as it's the right size :p

Though the red gills and copies are meant to be fished as an unweighted teaser while the usual rubber would probably have a lead head.

Its not which one will out fishes the other , Its simply about MATCHING what bait is there. If there is Sandeels on the beach Im going to use the Red Gill not a rubber Shad ..............MATCH the HATCH............................
