Has anyone tried this method in our world.

As some of you's know, my brother and partner I work with, he's a fresh water freak ....anyway, we share and learn a ton about fishin. Carolina rigged worms has been deadly in the fresh water scene for a long time....so why ain't we hearing guys useing this same type set up in the salt?? Some GS rubba would work good I think.

One of the reseaons that makes CR so good is the sound the weight and glass makes. We know that vibration put out by rattles in lures work on top but what about on the bottem?? If sound on the bottem produced in salt, wouldn't they be jigs with buckshot or some kinda rattle in'um??

With the new tougston weights I think you can your eel down in deeper water, both surf and boat. They make bullet style weights in small incriments, smaller profile.....less hang ups.

Being a freshwater convert myself I found myself using alot of fw methods with me in the salt. This is a good technigue with a fresh dead eel before it gets to stiff. I have used this with a good degree of success around RI and in some swift current situations like the stone bridge area of Tiverton. Works well.

OK i looked at the poics. Actually wa sthinking of the Texas rig that i think might work better if you tied a knot to keep the weight at the eel head.

The carolina rig looks like you would be snagging all the time on the weight/bead/swivel. If not snagging , it would definitely accumulate weeds , especially mung.

Maybe for a nice clean sandy area?

Lots of people just put a rubber core on the line above the eel or even shove one down a dead eels throat.

ived seen a set up that was similar to this. he was using sand eels with a egg sinker instead of the bullet and letting the current take it. he caught fish with that set up. who knows try it, and if it works great, if not don,t use it. :)

That's always the bottom line. Try it and see if it works! :)

I see what your sayin about it picking up weed but picture this: swivel-bullet-glass bead-hook....just enough slack so sound can happen.

We used to carolina rig lizards and stick worms for largemouth/smallmouth. A couple years ago, I bought a carolina rig weight set and some large 10" lazer eye plastic worms that look just like eels to try for stripers. I've given it about 20 minutes a couple times, but at off times when nothing else was working (or there were no fish around). There's no reason it won't work, but I just haven't given it alot of time.

But I've used the weights to get eels and herring down in deeper water when drifting.

But I fish for stripers the same as I would freshwater bass alot of the time. Jerkbaits and grubs and I use alot of "walk the dog" type topwater lures like zara spooks.

And vice-versa... I'm likely going to do our traditional "guys" canadian fishing trip this fall and I'm gonna bring some of my saltwater tricks. The lake has alot of shiners, and juvenile pan fish, so I'm gonna castnet some to try for some lunker largemouth.

Goose we have thrown live eels with egg sinkers in the Canal before. It works!

You could use a plastic seaworm, a live seaworm, or a plastic femelee sand eel. Looks cool. Goose, have you tried a popping float rig?

nope. plastic baits, small live baits.

I use a tan and white belly plastic sand eel with an egg sinker. Jist like Newell guys pic but plastic. I use this in rivers with sandy bottoms.

Can't say I've ever fish that rig Notaro.
Useing a plastic seaworm would be the closest thing to the fresh water presention but I realy want to try and add to the eel.

I fish live eels with 3' leader 75lb swivel and egg sinker all the time. The only way to do it :) can be done from shore too if the current is too strong.

Funny you brought this up goose as I messed with this a little last year...I didnt have any er..."results" per say but I only tried a few short times and plan on trying again. Tried it with a 9" senko for poops and grins.....

why isnt there huge striped bass spinner baits...
its all i can think of lately so i'm gonna make some...

Raven, what about big muskie spinners, I think they'd suffice for striped bass

the hooks are not meant for salt water....
and i want somethin much heavier
i have wire and i wish i had terminator wire
so now im starting to assemble parts
i'm even considering a corkscrew design to
~~~~~~~ impale a eel body on then reconnect
to hook section... similar to eel skinnen a plug
but beefier....

theres gotta be a way....i was watching hank parker the other night and he had a spinner bait with a different type of spinner blade it was inverted kinda....he was calling it a thumper blade.

Mepps makes some massive Muskie spinners dressed with bucktail - I have one, I'm sure it would work just never think to put it in my bag.

this year i am going to try them.... especially pulling them close to the surface so they ripple a trail for some top water action.
just need to get the weight up for a long distance cast...

Try a Buzz Bait. They create all kinds of noise on the surface

If you want some surface action with eel type lures , a skin plug swimming in calm water is killer.

My grandfather sued to fish em on a big ole bobber, like largemouth :huh: must've been a problem at first with em balling up, but maybe he wacked the tail or sumtin'.. never asked or tried it....
