View Full Version : recommendation for 10' spinner blank
crashfromamesbury 04-26-2004, 01:54 PM this is for spinning plugs, and heavier rubber.. and eels..
will be putting 706z penn on the rod and hopefully be throwing
braid.,.,whats the best medium action to medium fast action
blank ..
(also if you can recommend guides sizes as well.. plan on using
silicon carbide fuji guides )
Fungus 04-27-2004, 06:10 AM How heavy or light are you planning to go with this rod? I have an American Tackle 1209 wrapped up as a spinner that I use in the Merrimack and I like it alot. In general I am using 3-4oz with it and it performs well. In my opinion it is a medium-fast rod and has plenty of power to handle fish in current.

mikecc 04-27-2004, 06:31 AM 10' I like Lami 1201L, Xra 1204 & Rainshadow 1208
IMO SiC guides do not come big enough for that reel I would go with Fuji BSVLG 50 to start
50,40,30,20,16 with a #12 ring tip
crashfromamesbury 04-27-2004, 08:39 AM thanks for that info mike.. you have pointed me in the right direction..
as far as what i plan on casting.. my bigger plugs 3.5-6 oz and
occasionally bait. but i will be using this to chuck eels
i have a good friend who builds rods out of salisbury if you need
any thing done, he did a lot of the custom work and repairs for
kay at surfland for many years... and he builds one hell of a fly
rod..
crashfromamesbury 04-27-2004, 08:44 AM Mike,
i down loaded a copy of the lami blank catalog for 2004 could not find that blank listed..
looked at the arra 1204 i think that may be a little light ,, whats the specs on the rainshadow blank? and where can i get those blanks in mass ?
i appreciate the info.. i'll be down in wareham in a couple of weeks i'll make sure to stop in ..
thanks again

crashfromamesbury 04-27-2004, 09:31 AM thanks spence,
did find it.. just had to look again.
Mike P 04-27-2004, 11:56 AM Sounds like you're gonna be tossing the heavy artillery.
For those plugs, and big snakes, I'd go with the Lami GSB 120 1M or XRA 1205. Possibly even the Arra 126 1MH.
The Batson SU or All Star 1209 is too stiff for throwing eels.
mikecc 04-28-2004, 05:39 PM Forgot like MikeP said rainshadow now has 2 blank series the SU & SW series of rods. The SU1208 or the XRA 1205 for the bigger eels would be good. The SU blanks are heavier than the SWs .we carry most of the rainshadow series of saltwater blanks.
spence 04-28-2004, 05:47 PM If the Batson SU1208 is exactly like the Allstar 1208, I don't think it's good for eels. Hence the reason I went looking for an eel rod. The Allstar 1208 is sweet for plugs up to 4 ounces or so.
Based on my research the 1201m or 1205 may be best, though to be honest I've not fished either...
