stilt fishing.... the people of thiland and sri-lanka have been doing it for centuries... the stilt is firmly planted into the ground and the fisherman sits in a basket... get this though... no-one ever takes his spot... most of the people you see stilt fishing are "commercial fishermen" what they catch range from specific types of "high interest fish" to shrimp...

either PBS or Discovery channel had a segment about the stilt people last year... it was pretty interesting but.... i'll still take my waders..

I'd rather use waders and hope they don't leak to stay dry :rollem:

Besides, if I need to climb my fat a$$ up there, they're going to need a thicker stick and a remote :laughs:

Seen them do something similar in Vietnam. I was told they did it because of sharks in the water too. In fresh water, they do it to keep the leeches off.
They'll sit perched on them things for quite a while too. In Vietnam, they also climb those skinny limbs to rig big huge drop nets.

Not to take anything away from those guys, but that water is probably 84 degrees, & they are safer on those poles that walking around in shark infested waters. But then again they have to make it BACK to the beach with a net full of bleeding fish so that might be kinda tricky. Otherwise it looks like fun.

If they are doing that to avoid sharks, I would suggest a bigger stick.
