Guys,
I was reading somewhere recently that there used be a run of haddock between newport and fishers island. Anyone have any details? What time of year (I'd assume winter)? Any real old timers aorund here?

Nah, even I aint that old - but I'll check it out for ya - a good friend of mine is a Sr. biologist with DEM -
Yeah, they were probably feeding on pollock - which there ain't many of any more either....:(

Mike - asked a friend I fished with tonite - who's older than me -about the haddock - he wasn't sure - the pollock that I was referring to were the 3-8" variety that I used to see a lot of around the harbor mouth, not the larger mature fish -
Anyway, when I talk to Professor Onitis I'll see what he knows for ya -
Hey, uhhh..... is there a part two to this?

Crafty,
part II, not really. I was reeading about it and thought that maybe, just maybe, if the Haddock populations continue to increase that run might reappear. But I was really more interested for the history lesson.

Talked to a friend who's one of the principal biologists with DEM yesterday, Mike - I think it's gonna be a while so it is pretty much a history lesson - which isn't a bad thing for future reference, ya know. ;)
Yeah, if the pollock would return and blitz the surf around the island again then we'd really have an act going!
You can still find little guys around Castle Hill most the time but they're about 10" short of keeper size. :(
