Get up this morning at 4:30 for som pre-work fisihing. Go down to the boat to find all my herring have been stolen. :af: I had last checked on them on Monday morning - so it was sometime either monday or tuesday. 21 herring gone.

I can't really begin to imagine the low life scum who would do this. This is the type of person who thinks the world owes him something - the type of person who doesnt know what it is to work for something - who just takes and has no conscience. Im just so F'ing disgusted.

It really burns me that the thief is probably among us. Lets face it - the #1 reason that anyone is going to want live herring is for Striper bait. If you're fishing for stripers in RI - you probably read these boards.

I just don't understand how you can live with yourself.

I can't believe what some people will do...it's really getting out of hand. I have only been fishing with herring for a couple of years but it is really turning into a pain in the a$$. Go through all the trouble of getting a permit, getting bait, taking care of it, and then some a-hole takes them from ya.....paybacks a bitch...hope you find them!!!!:af:

I just don't understand how you can live with yourself. I SERIOUSLY doubt that the person is from here. How many people from here know where you live? 3? 5? 8? Do you really think it was someone from here? Do you know how many guys fish herring in RI that don't even have a computer? 60%? 70% maybe? If the remaining 30% that had computers were all registered here we'd have 7000 members just in RI.

We don't WANT everyone from RI that fishes and puters to be here. We don't want to be that big. I wouls be suprised if we had two percent of RI anglers on this board. Think about it...

I finally got some herring in my pen that I caught this AM. If someone steals them I will hunt the suckers down. I just don't get the theft....esp by fisherman ON OTHER fisherman. They know what a pain it is to catch, transport and keep alive these fish. I can see why people don't want fisherman driving on the beach or even fishing in sight of private property..a lot of fisherman are dirtbags.

It don't take much to be nice and respect others property. (Ya know if the guy would ask me I would probably give him a few)

Talking with the constable at the run this morning...asked him have their been any break-ins..."Not yet, When it the first bass tourny? Last year, the breakins coincided with with every contest around."
I told him it is embarrsing to be associated in the same group with these kinds of people.

John - dont get me wrong - Im not saying that someone is trolling the boards to see who is stocking herring and then pilfering from their pens.

Im just frustrated and venting. Yeah - maybe the jerk doesnt read my post and will never know that I (and everyone else here at S-B) thinks he's a jerk. It just felt good to vent a bit and to think that maybe the guy would read it and maybe, just maybe, think twice.

Last year there were several transient guides that would show up in Wareham ,Marion and Mattapoisett pull up to a herring pen and empty it and take off with thier clients . I know of one that was busted and got off with a wrist slap . Maybe we should check on the regs for shotguns on our boats and settle the problem like the old Maine lobstermen use to. I use to find my lobster pots open when I pulled them on Sat-Sun . How did those lobsters open those pots ? Maybe some help from rubber fish? But unless they had thier arm stuck in the pot when you pulled it and you could keep them in it until the EPO's showed they got away with it :af: :af: As far as herring go I'll stay with wood and save myself the aggravation.

I had a simular thing happen last year at the marina. I had put
shore power on my boat, you know, just enough to use a battery
charger if needed. I bought a new 12/3 ga extension cord in
yellow to match the shore power other boaters use. Well, anyway
I had to use an adapter to plug it into the tower. Some lowlife
stole the extension cord, and left the adapter. The adapter cost
more than the extension.

Its bad when someone steals a mans bait alot worse when someone steals a mans tools, my van has been broken into 2x in my yard in 2 years, tools never found and cops seem like it is a bother to them:af: :af: Last time the insurance refused to pay unless I furnished all receipts, I dont keep receipts for tools I have enough junk to keep track of :af: SOB insurance Co.

BassMan-

That really is a shame, I would have been VERY upset also. I had something happen last summer that was similar...

I got out of work at midnight and swung by my marina to check on the boat which I do on a regular basis. Well, there is a van with four scary looking dudes just milling about the entrance to the marina gate, which was locked. So I drive away and park down the road, than walk back and observe.

By the time I get to where I can see what's up, they're over the steel gate which reads NO TRESSPASSING and onto the docks, onto and inside of the boats.

I called the local PD, where I am an officer, and said, send the boys... While I waited for them to arrive these jerks went through the boats pretty good, including mine, mostly looking for fishing tackle, lures, rod, etc. Fortunately, the cruisers arrived shortly so nothing was taken away.

We grabbed two of the four. Two others dove into the drink and swam off. After a boat search for an hour or more (fearing for their "safety", of course....) we didn't find them. Later on, about 4am, my sergeant finds these two other knuckleheads thumbing down the road in their underwear with wet clothes in hand. It was a good grab...Tresspassing and B&E to a Boat

A good grab that is, until it got to court where everything was dismissed, with court costs, despite their records for thefts, larceny, B&E...you name it.

There's nothing like those Massachusetts courtrooms to make a cop smile! :laughs:

Next time, I think Imay handle things a bit differently !

poachers should be shot on sight!!!!!!!!what hind of a low life would steal your herring:af:
i seriously doubt the're any kind of sportsman at all.
the'll get theres in the end.
remember a thief almost allways returnes to the scene of the crime.
i'd hav em lookin down the barrel of the 12 gauge!

have the folks down on the docks keep an eye on things for you.

or better yet set up a camera, even if it's fake. might make some a-holes think twice.

Next time take care of it yourself, and claim they must have have an "accident. "Well, they must have dove off the dock and hit their head on a rock, about three or four times." or " I tried to help him out of the water, but he kept hitting his face on my knee."
But seriously, I would like to teach them a REAL lesson.
