So i'm new on the board. I picked this webiste up while i was so busy at work and i thought you might be able to help.

You see i am absolutely cursed when it comes to stripers. I can do bass, drum, blues, spanish, sharks, trout whatever, but my striper luck sucks. I live in richmond and the schoolies come through here this time of year chasing the herring. I have been down town trying to catch them at the base of the fall line for 2 weeks now. I got a few and even one good one. However i know there are more in there than i am taking advantage of.

What advice could anyone lend towards becoming productive with this?

What are any habits of the fish i should know about? Stripers are so fickle compared to other fish.

What should i be throwing?

I'm somewhat clueless.

read books, the web, check your local shops but above all, spend time on the water... What are you using? The best things in the world are bucktail jigs, kastmasters, and small soft plastics like cocahoes and ledgerunners...

Fish at dawn and dusk and the middle of the night. You will have better luck than in the middle of the day.

I've been throwing pearl and chartreuse sassy shads with different colored 1/2 oz jig heads. One guy around here told me to use tiny white grubs, but the d@mn old white perch keep eating those.

I tried a kast master but the rocks ate it. I have tried a lot of different colors with the grubs as far as white, green, yellow, orange, and white with a pink tail, but the sassy shads seem to produce the most. However that is said knowing that i am catching about 1 fish for every 3 hours.

Says top water lures work. Try some poppers that look like herring.

OK, sounds good. Another question.

The spawn run ocean rock stay about 15 miles down stream and lay their eggs. Only the little schoolies come all the way up to the city. However there are times when i know they are there, but they do not want to cooperate. Is there something i need to know about their temprement or what depth they are holding in?

I'd leave those spawning fish alone...but if you go try to find them, please use circle hooks if you are bait fishing.

I would never mess with spawn run fish. I only aggrivate the premature schoolies that are a little too young to get any.
