Rappin Mikey 05-10-2004, 06:58 AM Not a great weekend for me. 2 twinks from the Tames. 1 Big skunk at the Enfield Dam. Hopefully this warm weather will push the fish into Holyoke this week.
Mr. Sandman 05-10-2004, 07:19 AM A few small surf fish on Sat eve just as the sun set. No action to speak of....couple more weeks. My records show things lit up around the 20th of may last year. This winter was even colder (jan coldest on record for the last 76 years) so I would not too expect much at least until then. Trying to build up a live herring supply and get a boat running in the meantime.
I am seeing more bait this year then last (good thing)
Still lots of weed too:mad:
tlapinski 05-10-2004, 07:19 AM Mikey, when did you hit the enfield?
MountainBreeze 05-10-2004, 07:30 AM Got 7 shorts in the Mystic River Sat. Nils and Zen got about the same each.
Moses 05-10-2004, 07:44 AM Skunked down at the Canal sat afternoon. Wind was howling big time and I caught the tide wrong. Didn't see anyone else hooking up. Most down there were live lining herring. Looking forward to some fishing this week....
fishaholic18 05-10-2004, 07:56 AM Got a few keepers Friday night and one Sunday.
partsjay 05-10-2004, 07:59 AM 2nd weekend out; Still looking for first fish, can't seem to get the skunk off my back this year....oh well keep on pluggin', maybe this week.
I was out in the kayak off Gloucester saturday morning for the first time. I landed a 18" striper on the first cast of the year. I kicked around the annisquam river for a couple of hours, landing a dozen schoolies. Just good to be out.
Rappin Mikey 05-10-2004, 08:47 AM Wow, that's early for Gloucester. Toby, I sent you a PM. Any action for you there this year?
tlapinski 05-10-2004, 08:49 AM Mike, i don't think i have caught anything that would not be a "keeper" yet....... :)
jugstah 05-10-2004, 08:50 AM Got skunked, but my brother caught a short and a keeper, and the other brother caught a short twice.. all in all, pretty good for rough weather this past weekend in the west end of the canal.
Got my first keepah of the season this a.m.

There starting up here...I picked up a 1/2 dozen on the Parker Friday night. All nice and Shiny not that dull wintered over look. I'm hoping to see keeper sized by the middle of next week......Please :D
Mr. Sandman 05-10-2004, 10:14 AM BTW, a fatal accident this weekend along Atlantic Ave (Runs parallel to South Beach). I heard it was two 17 yo kids racing an SUV with 15# of air in the tires. (I know, I know) Tires peeled off when they reached 80 and vehicle rolled 4 times, ejecting driver, passanger got hung under vehicle and was killed. Driver died shortly thereafter. (no seat belts) I was comming back from chappy and saw a army of EMT's heading south very fast.
Don't know if I have *all* the facts straight but that is what I heard from a few locals. It will be a very sad day in the high schoool today.:(

Kind of a funny story~
I was fishing with *** @ **** and I wasn't having much luck. *** had to work in the morning so *** headed home around 1am....Seeing as how I just wouldn't let myself go home skunked, I headed over to a schoolie spot to end my night. I was on within minutes and having a little fun. The fish ranged from 12" - 25"....I wanted something a little bigger so I started moving around...I could hear some decent gargles in the darkness and started carelessly casting. I was throwing a "mega-bait",...well mega or not....I must have casted right into a rock because as soon as I started retreiving the lure I noticed the action was different. I lifted the lure out of the water expecting to see the line fouled with a trebble hook, but to my surprise...it wasn't. Assuming the problem had corrected itself, I casted it once more. As I started retreiving the lure, ... again it had NO action. This time I carefully watched the lure as it approached me, it was definately damaged. I lifted it out of the water and noticed the lip was gone, I had completely snapped it off...apparently leaving a small hole near the lip area too. This lure no longer sat horizontally in the water...it just sank backwards due to the bearings inside and the hole in the lip area allowing water to enter the cavity . ...oh well....off with the mega-bait, and on with a Tattoo swimmer...and of course, more fish. :D
During all this time, there were baitfish constantly being harrassed by predators. Predators that I thought, were JUST bass. To my surprise, a school of squid appeared close to the area that I was targeting. I could tell they were squid by their alien style swimming, they were shooting at the surface trying to catch their dinner...:D. OOOOH, speaking of dinner - - - Boy, could I go for some fresh calamari.....what to do??? I didn't have any squid jigs, I had no intention of chasing squid that night. I searched through my bag and only came up with a small kastmaster. I tried numerous times, but could only get them to chase it. I was hopeless. I threw the swimmer back on and continued fishing, the whole time thinking about the squid. I tried to remember the lures I had seen in my bag... What could I use???
Then it came to me :D
it just sank backwards due to the bearings inside and the hole in the lip area
I quickly switched lures and started bobbing this broken mega-bait infront of me.....Low and Behold, the squid came...and FAST!! It was a B**ch getting them on trebbles..but WELL worth the belly they went into today...:D:D
Moral of the story, ...DON'T THROW AWAY THAT BROKEN PLUG JUST YET!! ;)
