Those things will take a finger off real quick. When I used to have my lobster boat I would catch them every once and a while. For fun we would hold them up to the gunwhal and have them bite onto it. They would sit there for ever, just holding on by those big nasty teeth.

They are a great tasting fish too. The eat mostly shellfish, like lobster and such.

Thank You, In Norway we called them Uer but I had no idea what the english name was.

As a kid in Norway we used to go fishing for them in waters from 30' to 300' of water. When you pulled them up to fast the eyes or the intestins would pop out. It was like candy when you poached them........ mmmmmmmmm now I'm hungry. (I remember the skin used to turn red when poached, maybe from eating lobsters etc. Strange what memories pop up every now and then)

It is a piss bag, CAL.:laughs: I dunno, NilsC, is that a bladder?

No way, SJ, that they would cut my finger really quickly. I thought that a wahoo, king mack, kingfish, and bluefish cut off anything quick.

So that's what happens to those goldfish that no body wants and gets flushed down the toilet! That is one ugly fish!

Wow!!! :laughs:

So what do you think he did after taking that photo?

1 - Release (looks dead though with ball bag hanging)

2 - Mount and display over fireplace (I think not)

3 - Cook 'em up and eat (maybe down south :laughs: )

4 - Throw it in the back seat of your worst friends pickup truck and let mother nature do the cookin'

You ever go "deep sea fishing"?, When fish caught in deep water decompress, they blow their guts out the vent and the air bladder out the mouth.

MrsS,
You close your eyes while eatin...

Yes, we eat them... very good.

I think it's the intestins hanging out, pushed out by the swim bladder.

It's not me in the picture, :D

I used to go COD fishing in the North Atlantic, off the cost of Norway in the Middle of January.(North of the polar circle). Cod fishing in Norway used to start in the fall and was fished all winter. Split up when the Herring came in, then the really crazy fishing started (Closing of whole fjords, rivers and saltonds trapping the fish. Herring was scoped up until the boat was full, then the next boat moved in to get filled. (This kind of fishing depleted the ocean so bad that I remember it called "Black Sea" meaning no fish).

Some of the Fjords can be considered deep sea fishing with depts of 300+ meters (900+ feet)

I started ranting again, didn't I. It's just that I wish the fishing had ben regulated earlier and overfished like the Norwegians and Japanese are doing still.

Heard on the phone "Do you have King Oscar in a can"

As everyone told you uer is known in american english as wolfish or ocean catfish. As you know it is really good to eat. I have had some great uer in Norway.

It didn't sell so good here in the US until some creative marketers came up with the name (forgive my french spelling skills) Loup Du Mer (wolf of the sea). You sill see that name on many fine dining menus.

Never caught one before, but I have been cod fishing around Lofoten in January!

One thing I noticed about wolf fish, they seem to have alot of worms in the meat, even more than cod, but they are tasty.

A "monk fish" is not a "wolf fish", a "monk fish" is a "goose fish".

Nope. Monkfish another name for Angler fish.
You think this wolfish is an ugly sucker you should see the Monk.
I will try to dig up a picture. It is basically a big ugly head with a tail. No body at all. They tails are delicious to eat, though, and the liver is highly prized by the Japanese.

And you thought a wolf fish was ugly.

Angler fish, goose fish, monkfish= same fish.

The meat off the tail is like lobster meat.

Also, now that I am completely rambling on about Angler fish, the reason it is called an "angler" is beacuse it dangles that little antenae on its forehead infront of its big gigantic mouth to lure in unsuspecting fishies.
Basically it fishes for its dinner just like we do.
