I am looking for a block ice mold I can fill and put in my chest freezer. Does anyone know where I can find one?

I use to have one a welder made for me out of AL but for some reason it is gone

It had flaired sides so the block would come out easy.

thanks in advance

Don't know what size you have in mind...but.... I use an old gallon plastic milk jug, cut the top off above the handle, right wher in narrows in, cut if flat and level. fill 3/4 with water set it in the freezer. Turn it upside down and give it a whack or 2, slide right out. 4 of them fit right nice, across the bottom of my Igloo.

I like to use a square cat litter bucket. Line it with a plastic bag, fill to the corect size, when it freeze's it will pull right out.

they make blocks and may be able to either sell you a mold or tell you where you may fine one...

Why not just fill the milk jugs 3/4 and keep the caps on and use over and over?

If you freeze the water in the jug and keep it capped, when the water melts, you'll have nice cold drinking water instead of a cooler full of cold water.

You can do it that way as well... I like to use just the ice... old timer showed me a trick a long time ago, the cooler is on the rack, leave the drain plug unscrewd about half way... let the water just drip out slow... ice lasts noticeably longer, and the fish slime and other *oopses* flush right on out, till you get to clean it.

I put water in empty 2-litre coke bottles and freeze. I put 2 or 3 of them in my 162qt coolers. Puts enough chill in the box to hold fish great. And when thirsty you have plenty of wicked cold water to drink, and it is free. If you don't drink it just put it back in the bait freezer when you get home and your good for tomorrow. Works for me.

I would need several milk continers...I suppose that would work. This AL mold use to make a large blocks just like you buy and were great..
I will look around and see what I can cook up.

Sandman,

If you really want the bigger blocks fing a tupperware container the size you want for your mold. They come in a billion shapes and sizes.

I personally like the bottle method. For unless the cooler is draining well (propped up on one end) the fish on the bottom tend to sit in fresh water sometimes giving strange skin coloration and appearance. Sometimes the guy at the fish market will give you a strange look for he thinks you caught it 4 days ago.

The plastic will seperate fairly quickly when run under hot water for a few seconds. I have done this in the past with the kids toy totes.
