Has anyone had any luck this past week fishing the above areas by boat for bass & blues. I have been working P.J. with great success but figured it might be time to give my backyard a try.

I saw your post for 'fishing around Quonny and Charlestown' which caught my eye - - I fish out of Ninigret. Have you had any luck locally? I'm always interested in learning/sharing new locations, techniques, etc...

I fished quonny pond from the shore on 8-14, and 8-19. The birds and snapper blues were hammering small (1") bait on the incoming tide. Just before high tide stripers moved in and were splashing everywhere. No one caught any that I saw, but there was a lot of surface activity. The stripers were eating 4" bait. The fish were accessible to both boats and shore fishermen alike. A couple of boaters said that it has been like that for a while, and they haven't ventured out into the big blue.

Capt Don from the area has been doing quite well tubbing and worming just to the east of Quonny, Central Beach to Fresh Pond Rock. Last week he had fish to 35 pounds.

A couple of other regulars have been doing well right in Quonny pond trolling around Welcome Rock, a large rock to the right with welcome painted on it. This is a good area during the week when boat trafic is minimal.

I'll begin fishing the local area very soon. Right now the fishing is fantastic at B.I. for Bass, every hookup is a keeper sized fish, over the weekend I landed 12-15 bass, the larges was 37" and the smallest was 32". The nice thing was that there were not that many blues around.

It's good to hear that the hometown area is producing though. How have the shore guys been doing in the area? I listen to them in the morning on channel 10 (cb radio) and it sounds pretty slow.

If anyone knows how to fish the Watch Hill reef correctly, i'd love to invite you on the boat to teach me the spots......

I've also been having great succes fishing the South West Ledge off B.I. for Stipers, however lateley it seems that I am catching more blues than anything - - are you having a similiar experience? If not, I would appreciate any recommendations. I typically troll 300' of wire with umbrella rigs and a teaser or parachutes.

This past weekend the southwest corner of B.I. was loaded with bass, I picked up between 12-15 keepers with the smallest being 32" and the larger ones to 37". I was trolling a black tube-n-worm with a seaworm on the end. I picked up a few bluefish also but it was mainly bass. The reason you may be picking up alot of blues is the umbrella rig, ditch it and put a tube on.

If the weather holds out I will be there Sat morning......

I was using the tubes earlier in the summer but found I was having better success with parachutes and umbrellas - - maybe it's time to dust them off and give them another shot.

Don't be arfaid to put shoestring eels on the tube instead of clamworms if you have them. Fish 50/50 clamworm/eel and see which is more popular at the moment... I wouldn't go out of my way to BUY shoestrings at a buck a whack - but if you've got 'em...

What's a shoe string? And your are probably right, regardless of what they are, I am probably not willing to spend a dollar a piece.

Are you also from the South County area, do you fish Block or the RI shore?

"Shoe strings" are the tiny eels that many shops try to pass off on people. Typicaly range from 7 to 9 inches in length and are real skinny. Uncastable with typical wurf gear from shore, they do work well off a boat...

I live in Warwick and mainly fishfrom shore. When I'm fishing Rhody - it's usually between the Narrow River and Naps with occasional jaunt over to Block (but I haven't been over yet this year :( )

How'd you guys do this past weekend?

I fished the South West Ledge of B.I. on Saturday and Monday morning. Decent fishing on Saturday with three fish in the 32 - 35" range and a number of blues for good measure - - Monday was another story, couldn't keep the blues away!

Anybody have different luck or can recommend tactics to minimize the # of blues.

I was out there on Monday morning and it was kind of slow, we picked up a 33-34" right off the bat, but then it was an all blues show, most of the blues were in the 5-8lb range.

It might be getting to be that time to start focusing on our South Shores here. I'll snoop around and see how the B.I. charters have done this week....
