BTW - I heard a couple groups that were whti water rafting last weekend got pretty banged up - was that you all? And more importantly - have you fished lately? Later, John Saltheart 08-01-2001, 02:54 PM Nice Fish SM!! Should be on the front page? Slipknot's been famous long enough. Schoolie's turn. :) Slipknot 08-01-2001, 03:17 PM NICE catch Greg, you got me by 2 pounds. It does look pretty large. You are right Saltheart, and I was gonna say the same thing. John take my pic off the front and put Schoolies' up. schoolie monster 08-01-2001, 03:21 PM No, our trip went great. The Kennebec River is pretty tame, but enough hits to make it fun. I had fun... I took up a rod, but got up there to find that the lake we camped on was flyfishing only. I took a spinner... I was bummed 'cause almost took the flyrod too. Plus they had canoes we could take and the lake is loaded with trout. As for salt, I got out last tuesday night but conditions were a dead calm and I didn't have a hit. I'm looking forward to getting out a couple times this weekend. I really want to get the boat in the water for some light tackle and fly action. And thanks Slip and Salty... but I don't think John needs my mug on his front page. That won't help business. TheSpecialist 08-01-2001, 03:46 PM Nice fish Greg. There has been bait bustin topside at the Dorchester , and So Boston area beaches for the last couple of days. I'm gonna try and get out Sat morning. chris L 08-02-2001, 08:09 AM Nice fish greg . 6'7 man I must have been stoned when I fished with you , I dont remeber you being that tall . maybe I was on a taller rock ? but who cares ! that is a nice fish was there a slip ( no knot )signed on that fish for the year long ? I hope so for your sake not so for me ! schoolie monster 08-02-2001, 01:39 PM Geez, you must have missed that thread. Yeah, I got a slip, but Slipknots fish was longer so I'm standing in second. Actually, the slip is sitting right on my desk here, so its not officially entered yet. Better send that in to John. I don't think you were stoned that night (if so, next time bring enough for everyone), I think I was stoned when I posted my height at 6'7" :) Slipknot 08-02-2001, 02:49 PM I don't know Greg, if I remember you didn't get a fork length but I did get an official fork length. I did measure the overall length myself but that can't count especially since I simply laid the tape on top of the fish and not beneath it. I think your fish would've had a fork length of at least 43.5" so if it's a tie then you lead by the extra 2 pounds. Kinda close to call. I wasn't thinking of the yearlong anyway, just the canal bonus. I figure someone will get a bigger fish by the fall. There are still a few 40s out there somewhere. I hope I'm fishing with someone from the board next time, so I can release the my next milestone fish and get a picture instead of thinking about killing it. I seem to remember why we chose to go by length instead of weight since it would be less harmful to the fish if we plan on releasing it if it's just measured and not hung on a scale. JohnR 08-03-2001, 08:06 AM Yeh, Slip's fish is leading. It was 1/2 inch ahead by adjusted fork length on schoolie's fish anyway... But I think someone will get a bigger by then.... Schoolie - you going out tonight? schoolie monster 08-03-2001, 10:35 AM Yeah, I'm headin' out... think you might be interested? Gonna hit the incoming and if I feel the need, maybe a bit of the outgoing, though I want to get the boat out tomorrow morning... but that can turn into an afternoon/evening venture. I just got a cabelas 8' salt striker for Karen/company to use, so I want to field test that rod with eels. Feels like a decent little surf rod... they had a combo with a PennZ reel so I figured why not, always good to have an extra reel even though I'd intended to put my penn 5500 on there... what a piece of crap that reel is. I know its only a $65 reel, but its one of those damn clickers! I hate reels that click. Otherwise, its just not very smooth and it just feels cheaply made. I haven't thrown a cast with it, but that was my first impression. Maybe since my last new spinning reel was a shimano stradic which feels incredibly smooth, I'm overstating what a piece of junk it feels like. Anyways, the point is, that while I really don't want to go fishing tonight, I just have to in order to test out this rod. My dad is coming up in three weeks and we should be hammerin' some nice fish by then, so I need a capable outfit for him... right? vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
