What state are the permits not available for. I am going down to the cape this week and was going to get one. I hope you're talking about Rhody!

Striperman, the Cape Cod National Seashore season OSV pass, according to the recording at the ranger station, is sold out. Here is the number from their website (508)-487-3698 http://www.nps.gov/caco/places/racepointstation.html
All I was able to get was the answering service which said that weekly passes were still available... If you speak to a real, live person - ask again and let me know....

The National Seashore has been putting limits on the number of OSV permits issued the last few years. If you want one, get it before the 4th of July. You're not missing much right now, though, since most of the race is closed for piping plovers and Coast Guard is munged up. Work the beaches from Truro to Wellfleet and you'll probably get bigger fish anyway.

For many years now I have obtained the OSV Permits. My understanding was that there has always been a limit...however just in recent years has it actually been met!!!Seems to me sales have really been soaring! I always purchase the permits about one to two weeks after they go on sale. This current year was no different, except the fact that in just that short amount of time there had already been almost eight-hundred sold!!!! My advice...go early. By early I don't mean before "the fourth" , I mean before Memorial Day!! If this current trend keeps up you'll HAVE to if you want a season permit!!!
If you do get a week pass and you want to avoid the crowds on the Race, try the OSV route in North Truro. There is never a crowd. Oversand access for fishing only is between 6P.M and 7A.M. if I'm not mistaken. You may want to check things out during some daylight first. Also watch for high tide as the beach can get quite narrow between the tide and steep cliffs. Good Luck!

Wait until late August/early september...after the season ends, they will put the Weekly permits up for sale as Yearly permits. My buddy had same problem last year....sold out on the yearly. Waited 1 week and they did away with weekly permits making the 200 or so yearly's.

Bob, you are wise beyond your years !!! That's great! I'll look into that when the time nears (or if you've heard that has happened). Thanks for the tip!!
