How did everyone do?
I met up with Bud8Fan and Canalman after my kids graduation last night. We fished a pretty much all night.. Fishing was slow. I managed one bass around 24". That wind was howling...Had a blast though.

fished till 6:30 all over soco-not a sniff. only saw two shorts caught @ sunrise. I even had a few fish break close enough to me that I coulda clubbed them with my rod.

so does this mean that there is a 20 man tie for first place in the rhody leg and we all get a prize?

Hey Newell Guy-didja get up and fish the sunrise?

Fishpart, thanks for the tips last night. JohnR, I apologize for neglecting my manners last night. Youw ere a lucky bastagem last night. :D I had a good time last night, but later it gotten cold and put a damper on the bites. I hope we all can do this another time.

ChrisL, thank you for rigging up the eekskin on my atom40 yesterday. I didn't catch any bass on it yet. So should I kosher salt it or dump it in the freezer?

Joe, do both. Get a heavy duty Ziplock bag, put the plug in,add some kosher salt and toss it where you mom won't notice it in the freezer.

It was nice seeing all you guys again and putting some faces to names :)

I got two fish 10-12 pounds. Lapinski got a 16 or so pounder and dropped a decent one.

Sorry to say nada from the East Bay, either - Ray (Maddog2020) his wife and little girl were staying at our B&B this weekend, after I left the grub fest I headed back - told Ray I'd take him to one of my favorite spots. By the time I hit the house I was ready for bed but shook it off and headed out.

Man, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was sleep deprived thinkin' about it now - we all had that 2 week bass-bender look, a little glassy-eyed.

I even had to do a Tim Coleman speedball on the way back on Rt. 1 (that's a large York Peppermint Patty washed down by a large black coffee) named after the retired fish mag editor. Yeah, Tim knows his schtuff. It works, too -

Anyway, promised Ray we'd hit a Newport spot after I got back, hit the Drive in time for the last of incoming, the slack and an hour or so down...nada. NE wind didn't thrill me but I got what I expected which was nothing, zilch, goose-egg. Talk about tired, I tossed and turned for a good 5 seconds when I got into bed at 1 AM. Slept like a baby.

So anyway, the stats from this side of the bay are: no hits, no runs..

But damn, I haven't slept that well in weeks -
:sleeps: :sleeps: :sleeps:

HEY! Guess what though - W turning to SW tomorrow....:tooth:

I had fun even though we were fishless, Crafty. My ankle felt pretty good even after all the walking my wife & daugher put me thru earlier on Saturday. ;) Way too many hotties walking around - thank goodness I'm not 20 any more! My neck's sore from looking. :D

We hit the mansions on the way home - oogled at the ones for sale. May be if I got about 10 friends together we could afford a shack on that strip? NOT..... LOL.

If any one is looking to stay in Newport give Crafty a pm - awesome place with some great prints on the wall. Of course its always fun to check out his cave. :D We slept like babies there. Lots of see and do and its all in walking distance. Plenty of great eats as well! We never moved the car until we packed and drove home. We are definitely going to be back there. Don't forget ya Korkers/carbide studded boots!

LOTS of great looking places to fish down there as well. Chuck gave me a speed sesson on the area - if I don't remember anything there is one thing he stressed: get some maps and do your homework before you head out. Fishing blind doesn't work - of course it helps when the ol' timers throw ya a bone now and then. ;)

Sorry I missed the RI leg - I had to do the family thing (this time around .... lol). I heard the chow was superb. :) You folks from RI are way friendlier than the folks from my state. ;)

Hi :wavey: .. Well, several of us went hiking in Gansett, split up, and managed a few dinks (no skunk here :hihi:) up into the mis 20 inch range - one on a spook and one on the Polski Plug. Both fish hit within 10 feet of the ledge and I swear the last one hit the plug in the curl as the wave went over the ledge. Speaking of waves going over the ledge, at one point a nice roller came in higher than our perch and washed into my Aquaskinz bag, my eel bucket and Joe's eel bucket. I still had a line in the water and when I saw the wave sweeping the gear over to the backside of the ledge (ledge is a small island at high tide), I jumped with such amazing speed and agility that I jumped OUT of my Korkers as I ran to save the plug bag. Fishpart then had to jump in and save the eel bukets....

JohnR, I apologize for neglecting my manners last night. Joe - apologize for what? Falling asleep at barely after midnight? Nahhh, it was good to fish with you and as long as you don't mention where we were we'll take you out again. Ed & I left you with the best place on the ledge all night in hopes you would get into fish ...

Funny thing was, Notaro was making some casts, really trying to crank the plug out, I told him to smoothe out the cast a little, he replied "You mean I shouldn't use the Ron Arra stance?" :laughs: - was funny ...

Seriously - Thanks to everyone that showed up, the usual supsects and some new members too, and thanks to Don for having us at his shop :btu:

you got it on a spook? i thought u were using a needlefish? that explains the popping tip. i thought that when it gets dark, i should use swimmer, but again, what are black poppers for? i will bring it to my grave, johnr. damn, when the water was crashing in, i couldnt see the ground when making back to the shore.

I was in Rhody last night , lots of guys fishing, ran into Blackeye (did you ever find Newelly?) and saw some of the S-B guys hitting the water, fished all the usual spots without a single fish, but RI is a beautiful place and the surf guys are the friendliest guys I've ever met...now if we could just add some fish into the picture ;) :) johnny "the Ratt Boy"

yeah johnny-he was sitting in the Bonn Vue Inne having a few beers.
Actually he was fishing down in front of the lite.
Lots of guys out fishing last nite, we hit the short wall after the light and there was more fishermen on the rocks than bird poop-and no fish. Too bad-once again I lay the blame on bad winds, cause it can't be my fault:(

Glad to hear he's not M.I.A :D , my buddy's and I have been blaming the SLOW start this year on the cold winter and all the rain we had but hopefully after this warm week (we're supposed to have) that will all change.:) johnny "the Ratt Boy"

Thanks, Joe - the blackfish was as fresh as it gets. It's a good thing you're 21 now, it has a lot of vermouth in it - positive ID required for the chowder :hihi:

But now I wanna get another coupla tog so Fishweewee and Maddog2020 can show me how to do it up with scallions and ginger - now that would be my idea of something. Might go out in the morning to wade for some more if I get up in time - wanted Maddog to go with me this AM but we thought back-to-backs might be pushing our luck a little too much for Mrs. Maddog and Mrs. Crafty. Of course, with Mrs. Crafty a big tog fills my cookie jar pretty nicely. Ya know, maybe it's time to take her along if she wants to go with me ;) - hell, she proved she can whip a plug as good as most guys when we were out on BI years ago, musta been all that muskie fishing she did with her Dad when she was a kid.

(Now, if we can only find all of those glass-eyed CC's her Dad had -
Hell, Garrett ain't all that far from her hometown, ya know, my bro-in-law has sent me some giant jointed pikies NIB.)

Anyway -

Ray - tell Maddy that Daisy ran into the suite while Johanna was in there after you guys left (and she knows it's off-limits) - she kept looking around the suite - looking for her is what we think! Must have been the stuffed bunny, they've got something in common, I guess. Thanks for the kind words, we were delighted to have you all for guests - I just wish the weather had been a little better - and the fishing, too . Glad you had fun in spite of the weather. Well, there's always next time - study the course material, next time around we're gonna put it to work on a "field trip". Johanna says hi and thanks - she was beat from the landscaping Saturday - I was gonna help, but......uhhhh....I sorta had a previous engagement in CT.

THE Bon Zoo? Damn, Blackeye, my alma mater - I was there a coupla months ago to celebrate my anniversary - nah, not our wedding, the first time I ever tended bar, it was 30 years ago at the Zoo. Great place man, I make a pilgrimage whenever I'm in the neighborhood - actually, if I wasn't so damned tired, I was thinkin' about stopping by for a short rinse. I love the vibe at the Zoo, hasn't changed a bit in all that time, it's great. Got talking to the chef there - Joe, I remember - and he used to drink in the bar I owned in Newport! Small world, huh?

Well, like I always say, RI is the biggest small town in the U.S.

Anyway - good seeing - and meeting - youse guys. Now I'm looking forward to the Mass Leg

Glad you guys had another successful meet. In a couple years, I'll be able to start hittin' those things. I miss that kinda of stuff. Seems like I only talk to my wife and kids and people at work anymore. Why my 1 year olds make the most sense to me, I don't know.

One of these times, everyone's gonna catch 30lbers.

Wise.... :D - Went to a good spot with favorable tides and marginal wind. Being a RI Surfcaster before you went upmarket :laughs: you probably knew the locales and would be suprised too. Bigger fish just weren't there.

I hear ya..just pulling your chain. Some nights it just ain't meant to be.
My wife fished in that fly rod tourny here and got blown out for the most part..One small fish.
I went to middle ground at dusk and had a steady pick of keepers in the rip casting bucktails but nothing of any size.

Next wave of fish should be here soon.
