beachwalker 06-06-2004, 09:16 PM Here is a mantle we have done for a home here.
Can you name some of the fishies ? We kept it simple this time. Thats the way they wanted it.
beachwalker 06-06-2004, 09:17 PM and another....
Notaro 06-06-2004, 09:18 PM stripers and blues. and a striper trying to swallow the whole blues in the background. you forgot to add some stripes on those stripers.
beachwalker 06-06-2004, 09:20 PM those are actually herring (the little ones). Nope no stripes is right and there is a cod cruising through the foreground. There is one offshore fishie in there. Hard to see in such low light. Either way off it goes to a home tomorrow. Thank god :(

you got anymore pictures of other works of art:D
beachwalker 06-07-2004, 07:59 AM Thanks all. Mostly it is Jack who works with me out here. He is the carver of talent. I rough out blanks, provide the right material and put the finish on. It is my business but Jack is an integral part of it all.
I'll put together some sort of montage of the work we have put out recently. Jacks experiences go back 50 some odd years. Dugout canoes with figureheads, animals, native american, nautical. It goes on and on. If anyone ever visits this place (if you can afford to :( ) you will enjoy our shop and speaking with jack. He is truly "da man". He's got 20 years on me.....
yep mike. 2 cod :)
Mr. Sandman 06-07-2004, 08:48 AM Really nice work! How long does it take to do something like that?
sweet stuff beachwalker!
My glass squid would look perfect on top of the mantle:spam: :hihi:
Saltheart 06-07-2004, 01:20 PM Very nice work of art! What's the wood and what kind of finish do you put on it ?
schoolie monster 06-07-2004, 02:17 PM BW, that is really neat... very impressive. I think that would take about 1000x more patience than I will ever have.
I will have to remember this for future reference.
Karl F 06-07-2004, 03:51 PM Amazing..... that would do any fireplace proud.
"And the plugs were hung by the fire with care... "
;)
beachwalker 06-07-2004, 04:43 PM Thanks again. That is an antique White Pine. It actually is a section taken from a 7" x !4" x 35' beam that came out of a warehouse in Maine. Circa 1880's.
The finish will be a rubbed Tung oil only on the carved surfaces.
