While watching coverage of President Regan's State Funeral last night on television, my wife and I got to discussing Alzheimer's disease and she mentioned that she had heard he was failing mentally in his last term in office. I had heard that also, but I know nothing really about what was really going on with the man at that time and told my wife such.

But that brought up another thought.

US Supreme Court justices are appointed for life, regardless of how soft their squash may get. And, I think most would agree, the US Supreme Court influences our day-to-day lives much more than the President does. Some would debate that...

Does anyone alse find it amazing that we limit a President to two four year terms, but Justices can stay on the bench making rulings on issues that effect us all until the day they die?!

Yes - I have issues with that but on the other hand, too much recycling of SC justices would extremely favor whatever party holds the reigns. You would have much ruling and then reversal when the next party is in power. I also think the lifetime appointment ensures more independence on the justices so they can be more ideological and unwavered about losing a job...

I think the justices can vote off a justice if he/she goes loopy . . .
Not sure through must have missed civics class that day :D
