Not that familiar w/ those. What do they go for $ wise?

I would be inclined to steer you towards a Shimano, or Daiwa reel at first.

I like the Shimano Baitrunner ( ~$100: I use mine plugging as well) and Daiwa Laguna (~$70 - great buy IMHO).

If you want a long cast spool type reel the Tica Dolphin is pretty decent for around $80. Daiwa came out w/ an affordable Emblem reel for around the same price.

The Penn 704Z is time proven & reliable for around $90.

I have one and use it a decent amount. Sure it doesn't seem as polished as my Tica's, but it works for me.

I have two , they work great. I've used mine for the past two years and punished them! There are easy to break and clean and the parts are pretty easy to find. i'd say definatly go for it!! worth every penny

It is possibly one of the worst reels ever manufactured. I'm basing this opinion on the fact that my friend had one it is was AWFUL. Everything breaks. It litterally "exploded" in his hand while reeling in a rat schoolie. Not to mention the fact that I wouldn't be able to (nor am I interested in finding out where) to get parts for the darn thing when it DOES go. In my opinion they SUCK!!

If you're looking for more distance in the Canal, learn how to fish a conventional. The Canal and conventionals were made for each other ;)

For the price difference between the Okuma and the Shimano BTR baitrunners, it makes no sense to buy an Okuma. Or anything else in the $100 range. The Shimanos are tough and durable.

If you're looking at Daiwa spinners, stay with the Emblem line. IMO the Regals are junk.

Blue Runner-sucks. The rods are tough, the reel will last you one serious season. If you are getting the Shimano BTR, make sure you get the B. I am in the process of oredering a new main gear and bearings for my 6500. My only quam with the Okuma is that there is not enough line capacity.

Don't get one I bought one when I first started fishing. Second time out the handle broke, returned it and got a Penn.

my buddy had one he bought on clearance.. 80 bucks or something like that.. he used it a few times and the smoothness started to go away... like rwilhelm his handle broke too.. the regular price on this reel was $120... I'd buy a Shimano baitrunner 6500B before dropping $120 on the bluerunner surf reel....
