Caught a schoolie this weekend and when I pulled it out of the water it had all this fungus all over it. Any idea what is was? It was so nasty that I didn't want to touch it. Was it that micro bacteriosis stuff that is suppossedly attacking the striper population. Is it harmful to humans?

Fungus or Sea Lice?

I've heard that the presence of sea lice indicates that they are migratory fish from more open ocean waters.....

No this wasn't sea lice. It completely covered the fish. You could barely see any stripes.

We got a couple fish last week that had some sores, but they seemed almost healed over. And we get fish in the Thames river that are covered with this white "ick". That almost sounds like what you're talking about.

If the fish can make that migration and is feeding, sounds like it may ok.

Dunno.

Yeah that's pretty much what it looks like, whitish and bumpy. Any idea what it is?

My best guess is some type of bacteria that attacks there slime coating. I really don't know, but its nasty.

If the fish is migrating and feeding, hopefully its something that will clear up.
