One of my fishing buddies says his friend bottom fishes near the Sagamore. Having never fished there I am wondering if the bottom there is rocky or not.

I fish mostly the East End and I would never think to try and hold the bottom there. It'd take a cannon ball to get bait down and then the rocks would eat it up.

thats funny because the east end has a more sandy bottom the sagamore has a ok bottom. a good spot is near the bourne bridge. another spot thats good if you want to spend some extra $$$ is the RR bridge there are rock piles near the base of it drift eels, chunks near the piles i like using my canal bait rig that is a 2oz rubbercore sinker 18in above you swivel and leader with a circle hook or you can use a egg sinker

I did notice that the East End seemed a bit sandier this season than last. It is still pretty damn snaggy though as I've already lost about 5 jigs there between 2 trips.

Once you learn the right way to jig the ditch you will find that you loose fewer jigs! Although if your not loosing a few your not jigging it properly!!

First time I jigged it last year I lost 7 jigs! Then once I got the "hang" of it I would loose one or two an outing! That is unless the bite was "ON" then you dont loose many at all!!! Unless you loose them to "Large"!!!!

I do good drifting chunk, my buddy likes to sink one at the east end everytime were out, usually he gets skate or dogfish, doesnt usually lose em there too often. Just bout everywhere else we fish down there he insists on trying to stick one in the current, it never catches anything, besides rocks of course. Ive noticed that a chunk can hold in the eddies without losing too much if your lucky.

You can bottom fish almost anywhere on the Canal at slack and maybe 40 minutes each side of it. Plenty of guys fish the pole 145-155 area at slacks.
