AWESOME presentation last night. Always being from the outside looking in to the world of the sharpies - you hit on a lot of common traits they share and provided answers and a some inpspiration to dig deeper....

Now to step back and rethink my current operations :smash: and bad habits

Again, great presentation and thanks for coming up!

Indeed a very informative lecture.
I almost wet my britches over the story about the guy that he took out. I waited around for a half hour afterwards just cause I had to see for myself what the guy and fish looked like.
:laughs:

I'm glad that I went to Crazy Alberto's presentation. It was very rich and imformative. Too many things to stuff into my head. I didn't take some notes all of it. I can't write and read his lips at the same time. But I was able to absorb some info into my head. I wish that I had my interprepter at his presentation.

Alberto was great. he got my mind working "think out side the box". I might have a few things to try.

now if i could only get my hands on one of those Big O's.

New Jack, what did he mean by thinking outside of the box?

BigFish
06-24-2004, 11:07 AM
Notaro, he simply meant that instead of thinking on a very small and limited level, you should open up your mind to a bigger and broader level and try to fish new methods and try some things that you would ordinarily not try. Do you understand Notaro?:D

Awesome presentation Alberto, thanks for making the drive up here.
I see now I gotta totally re-think how I fish - from boat as well as shore.
Again, many thanks.:btu:

Alberto is the man... I was wondering at first why he is "crazy"... he didn't seem to crazy, until I found out just how hardcore of a fisherman he is. I like how he is not afraid to challenge others' theories and perspectives... This shows that he will do whatever possible to be the best he can be... if it means his theories and methods are proved wrong, all the better! If I worked my butt off to keep a log for 40 years, I'm not sure how likely I'd be to travel around and divulge my findings to the world... it just shows how much he enjoys sharing his love for the sport with others. Class act!

He talked for over 2 hours... that's quite the gesture, especially after driving for 8 hours. He could have easily gone about 45 minutes and called it a night.

It would have been nice to get a diagram or something of his knot. I normally use a barrel swivel all of the time and never use a shock leader. I definitely have a lot of new things to try and new ways of thinking. I think a lot of "routines" and "trains of thought" were shot down by Alberto's presentation...in other words, I think we all got a good kick in the behind in terms of our "tried and true" methods, which is fabulous.

And if anything, he showed us that there's nothing wrong with being "crazy" when it comes to big bass!

Thanks again Alberto!!

:D :D :D :D

I got it. I can't catch a big bass if I think small.

You guys haven't FISHED until you've fished FIVE STRAIGHT DAYS AND NIGHTS with Alberto with an hour or so of sleep a night.

NOBODY fishes harder than Alberto.

He's crazy 'cuz he don't sleep. A true non-stop fisherman and a damn good one. :hihi:

Sweet, thanks for the diagram! I have some practice to do before the weekend, when "I have a couple of days off, and I'll just happen to be doing some fishing" That was CLASSIC.:hihi: That guy is cool (the one with the plug in his pocket who gave that response to when he fishes, as compared to migrations, moons, tides, etc)... is he on the site??

Oh boy I am glad I was workin and had my laptop. The notes I took!!! better than my whole bag full of junk. This is all from memory and things I have been thinkin about for a while.

Open your eyes to what is around you.
Take note of every detail when you are fishing.
Water - current, direction, seas, rising, falling, slack, chop, calm, temp..
Weather - rain, sleet, sun, cloud cover, fog, barometer, cold front, warm front, tropical depression..
Bait - on your hook, in the water, in the belly of the fish you catch, jumping, swimming, dead.
Birds - where, how many, what kind, what are they doing
Gear - Line, lure, rod, leader, terminal tackle
Lure - color, size, shape, float, sink, suspend, depth, rattle, scent, tied on? clip? glitter... Popper, Danny, Darter, Chub, needle, modifications needed? proportions of the lure? color scheme? hooks (treble? single? mustad? lazer? anodized red?)

Location-structure type? rip? bottom- sand?stony?vegetation?
Moon phase - waxing crescent? Waning Crescent? Full? First quarter?
Time?
Date?
Noise - hear anything? birds? wales? boats? mast slap? buoy bell?

Here's some I bet you wouldnt think of:

Dinner- pizza grease on the lure?
Smoke- you or your buddy smoking?
Gas- some fool breakwind on your surfbag?
Fuel - spilling oil or clean burning?
mung- how much and for how long?
motion - how long you been sittin still waiting for your vibrations to dampen?
new boots? repaired waders? stinky glue? stinky feet?

Put it all together.
Find the pattern.
Find the fish.

Some points that I had seen and learned watching predators... were reinforced hearing it again.

The hawk does not go after the crows that bother it.
Too much of a waste of energy. They sit back and wait for the sure thing. Figure out where the sure thing should be and the fish will be there waiting for it.

That frenzy in the topwater is like a food processor. Chopping up the food so that the big fat momma hoover can be down below slurping it up. After they move over and take the spot jumpers with them you go and target those monsters below.

That is after all what his secret is. He is not fishing. He is hunting. Widen your view to get the pattern and then narrow your scope to improve your chances.

IT worked for me to get my first keepers last year.
I am sure it will work for me again if I can keep focused.

You saw my BBQ. I take notes on how I cook it.
Photos of the process. And I tell and re-tell people how I cook.
No secrets. IT is easy when you know how to react.
Just like I see many of the people on this board.
They know how to react. They know what color to use when the sun tips behind the cloud of a retreating warm front.

I could ramble on and on.
What I really need is to pay attention to what works.

I love fishing.

I love Catching a bit more however.

thank you, mike, is that your note out of it? if that is so, then can i copy and pasted it on my MS words?

Wish I had been able to go to hear Alberto's lecture just for the refresher course, but the last coupla days have been brutal, I have a lot of stuff going out to clients simultaneously - no fun, it's been all hands on deck around here but unfortunately there's only four of 'em - me and Mrs. Crafty.

A coupla more days with my head down oughta clear the decks again - hey, I'm squandering valuable fishing time :fishslap:

Anyway, I did see Alberto's seminar at MassBass this past spring with EdB, saw BM and a lot of other familiar S-B faces in the crowd - ya know, Alberto really makes ya THINK about how you fish.

Like I've said before, the most important piece of fishing equipment you own really is between your ears - and Alberto is more than generous with all the information he provides both in terms of his equipment and his MO for finding - and landing - the big girls.

His seminar at MassBass was one of the very best I'd seen in recent memory - way to go Al :btu: - sounds like he embellished on it even more.

Pretty soon here I'm gonna put some of those nuggets to good use.....

My notes are a bit more disjointed. That post was stream of thought. As I said, I have thought of these things and tried to put them together. I do it for my cooking... whip whites before folding in cream, dont whip whites, vanilla first or second or third wet ingredient... fresh onion or dried,... olive, canola, peanut or corn oil? which brand? humidity? wind? temp? electic? gas? time on high? time on low? keep on heat when adding ingredients? shock with cold? let cool slow?

so many details that you need to keep track of.
If you are limited in when you do something the notebook becomes a way to reconnect the brain. If you are lucky enough to do the thing over and over again in a short period of time sometimes you can see the pattern. but a week, or month, or year later? hmm.. how did I do that agin?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your kind words and I am glad I had the opportunity to pass on some of my big fish insights! :)

I just wished I got there earlier but the CT traffic was horrific! Who would have thought you had to drive 20 mph through the entire CT state? :af:

I was really hoping to spend some time to chat with you guys before and after the seminar but we ran out of time.

JohnR – Hey buddy, we need to talk about that “thing” you showed me! It’s not nice to tease a grown man from New York ya know?;)

Notaro thanks for the email – You will be getting an email from me soon. :)

Moose Nuckle… So you are that big guy with the knife eh. :D
It’s a pleasure to meet ya! BTW: That knife was s.h.a.r.p.!... Which brand is that?

Fishweewee… Are ya getting ready for another marathon pal? ;)

Crafty Angler… Sorry that I missed ya - I was hoping to see ya at the seminar again. Actually, yesterday’s sunset – I caught a couple stripers along the Quincy Bay’s rocky shoreline and I thought of you and your photography! The black back with dark turquoise / black side lines was absolutely vibrant! Wished you were there because the scenery was absolutely gorgeous! :)

Any how… I am off to Montauk tonight. There are a few big and ugly things swimming those waters. Be prepared guys – As soon as this moon passes and with a little help of South wind – Those fish will be in your neck of the woods by mid next week. ;)

Fish hard, fish smart and be safe out there!

Sorry dude, only one I have :hihi: - but as usual, his work was fantastic!

C.A. - again, great seminar. Not only did it inspire me to alter my approach, remind me of things I used to do but fell out of good habit, it may have also provided an interesting "get out of jail" concept with the wife

Gonna send you an e-mail this week (I hope)...

thanks,
