After losing a couple nice fish the last few nights(dropping a 40 inch fish at my feet), i bumped up my leader from 30lb to 60lb lastnight. Didnt lose a single fish .Caught around a dozen nice fish, all 35 inches and bigger. My biggest fish was 42 inches and 27lb, my biggest fish yet!!! Took a beating though, went head first into the water a few times and got knocked over a bit, but it was well worth it. Going back tonight for my 50. All caught on eels , off shore on aquidneck island.

On BI I use an 80# leader for eels. It definitely makes a difference around rocks. In general, I don't use any leaders less than 50#s.

What knot do you use to tie your hook on to a leader that size?

A snell would work for any test line, I believe. It will be more of a pain to snell a hook with 80# than 50# but it will work.

i used the improved clinch knot. Just wanted to say thanks to all you guys who have helped me out and answered all my questions and JohnR for maintaining this site. Dont think i would have got the 27lber if it wasnt for all i have learned here.

Nice job Chef

I gotta get my butt out of the pond and do some real fishing. Palomar knot is a good choice for the heavyier mono

Good going Chef Goognomore....
A few years from now you'll look back and think you were crazy - going in head first once is bad enough...but a few times....whoa.
I'd be checkin' my shorts.
I almost fell into a breachway current pulling out one of my early keepers - I think everybody gets a little over excited when they first start scoring big fish, just remember that coming back is the number one priority.
Still - Excellent!

Glad to hear ya got into 'em - but be careful out there...there ain't a fish in the world worth drowning for. Not one. Hope you've been wearing your korkers, be safe.

Hey, btw, say hi to my old buddy Danny T  - I understand he's out at OC now -

Crushed em again last night. 10 fish ,35-42 inches. Had a nice 42" up on the rocks get washed back in, when the tide came back up.:smash: :smash: Really got tossed around when the bite got hot, went home soaked from head to toe again! I would get knocked in and almost be back up before another massive swell would smack me back in. Crafty , where is danny t working, kitchen , front??? I have to work 4 14 hour shifts in a row now, no more fishing till sunday night:D .

Chef - Danny's working in the kitchen, as I understood it - he's in his late 50's and a helluva fisherman - he and I have been friends for years, we lived in St. Croix togetner back in the late 70's - tell him I said hi and to get in touch with me.

Congrats on your recent run, too! :btu:
