I got these Red Gills and I want to make them into teaser rigs. (The 4.5" inch model)
I'm looking for suggestions on what would make a super-high quality surfcasting teaser rig.

I have Spro Power swivels - I'll be using them for the top swivel.

Should I use a duo-lock snap for the plug end, or should I use a Spro Snap/Swivel?
I'm leaning more towards the Spro.
The Spro 100# Snap Swivel is very small, smaller than most duo-locks. (I have Roscoe/Sampo stuff on hand too.)

Should I use Seguar Flouro, or something else for the leader material? It has to be fairly heavy.

What should I go with for the Red Gill hook? I'd like to use high quality hook like a VMC - but I'm not sure which model would work the best.
I measured it, and it appears that 4.5" Red Gill accepts a hook with a 1 3/4" - 2" shank.
I'd be ok with a hook made by another manufacturer, so long as it is well regarded. I'll need a model number.

I'll give a nice plug to the person(s) who provide the best help...

this is my teaser rig for plugging:



spro 40# snap to spro 50#swivel to 50#seager floro leaader to to teaser.

I like to start with a snap because I use a swivel leader rather than a shock leader which allows me to add/remoce the teaser with out retying.

well thats how I do it!, just my two cents.

Here is my red gill teaser rig set up . IT worked well onthe cape . First I use 100 lb swivels only because two bass at one time will wreck haveck on any thing lighter. For the mono 40lb is good for open beaches 30lb for back waters. Now for a snap a crosslock is good as it opens less often. 70lb is good. For the hook a Mustad 34007 5/0 fits the body well. Remember the two fish. Leader lengths 33-40 in for the main piece snap to swivel for open beaches, 24/30in for backbays. The dropper piece for the back loop of the swivel is 6-8in. Hoop this helps.

Spro swivel definitely the way to go! The hook I use on the red gills is just a Mustad long shank 2/0 and 3/0 stainless hook depending on which size redgill I am using. Not sure on the model number of the hook but it is very strong and has a nice point to it right out of the box. I picked them up at Weakapaug B&T at last fall's leg.

I think my redgill hooks are Mustad 34007 in 3/0? Long shank stainless steel. I haven't been able to find any in a while though...

Joe, DZ is the man to speak with about Red Gill Teasers...

I use a 150lb sampo swivel with 4 feet of 40 lb ande mono to a 50lb duolock snap. I then tie on about 8" of 50 lb ande mono to the redgill. I like to use Mustad 34007 size 3/0. The reason for the heavier leader to the teaser it seems to help it to not get wrapped around the leader to your plug.

that does it. I use my 50 lb for that and bait/jigs. 25# for all the rest. even with the drop.

may I suggest a palomar knot for the swivel end-u can tie it with enough leftover line to tie on the teaser without doing any cutting, and it has a cleaner profile than using two separate clinch knots IMHO
