do u guys regularly take bass? i like the taste but i really prefer a few pollock over a bass :) pollock taste better in my opinion and i usually wont keep a bass unless its between 33-40 inches anything bigger is just 2 much of a pleasure to catch to kill :D wut do u guys feel about the taking of fish?

Smaller fish are definately better to eat. I only like really fresh fish so I wouldn't think of keeping anything more than I could use in a day or two. I don't think I would begrudge someone for keeping a lot of fish as long as it wasn't wasted...
Then again fishing with Eben the past few times, his skunk has rubbed off on me so I don't really have to worry about it :smash: :D

When I run out of fish I keep one. I usually just eat fish and veggies( my wife is a vegetarian). I used to only eat fresh fish, but now I freeze up bass. The key is to not rinse the fillet in fresh water before freezing. I just had some bass from about a month ago and it tasted good. That machine that sucks out all the air helps too. I've also found that it does'nt matter how big a bass is, to me they all taste the same. You just have to make sure you bleed the fish. Most guys when they catch a big fish don't bleed it for fear of losing weight. The key to a nice clean fillet is bleeding the fish. I find this most necessary in Tautog. I agree, nothing beats a fresh fillet of cod, bass or Tautog but frozen works too. Don't underestimate a fresh piece of bluefish that has been bled properly. To me a fresh piece of bluefish tastes better than bass.

I agree with Chipwood that the taste between a large and a small fish are the same. The only issue with eating a large fish is that it probably has a lot more contaminates than a smaller fish.

I caught some pollock while codfishing. I did'nt care for it cooked straight up. I put it a chowder with the cod and it was'nt too bad.

we used pollock for fish n chips in the resturant i used to work for .. years back.. its a good chowder fish, and decent frying and baking.. but always with crumbs and butter..
not as tasty as cod or haddock.. but i like wolf fish better.. thats a good eating (butt ugly) fish

I always keep smaller fish for the table 28-34". They have had a lot less time to build up contaminants then the bigger cows.
