View Full Version : Access; A Ratt's Tale...
TheRattBoy 07-13-2004, 07:48 PM First off, I don't care what color yer skin is or what race you are , as long as you have respect for other people, their property and the enviorment, if you don't, then I got a problem with you...
History, I stumbled onto this south facing spot 6 years ago and instantly fell in love with it.I have spent countless hours there during all types of weather and i'm very proud to say just by looking at where the water is on the docks and which direction it is flowing I know where to stand and what to use, i've pulled fish out of there many times while others just watched. It is my ALL TIME favorite place on the Cape and this is where i've been teaching my 10 yr old son how to surfcast.I've often said if I could only fish one spot all season this would be it.
It is surrounded by multi-million dollar homes and has a resident sticker sign right where you park, this has never been a problem because the police have let it slide for the fishermen.
Three years ago scup fishermen started to invade the place, they would show up in two work vans and 15 (i'm not kidding) guys would get out and bring all their gear to the jetty, not one of them spoke english, or so they said. They would stay there the day keeping everything they caught in 5 gallon pails, no matter the size (flouder, bass).one rare trip one guy spoke some english, I asked him where they were from he told me Lowell, I was surprised and asked how he heard about this spot, he said it was written on the wall of his apt. building with directions, that they were a lot of "fishermen" in his building.By days end they would leave and empty squid boxes , cans and sandwich wrappers was all that was left behind, if they were REAL fishermen nothing would be left.Twice last year one of the police officers told me that someone had taken a dump on the lawn of one of the big $ homes and neighbors were getting upset with the trash.
Well, to speed things up, police are now enforcing the sign, as I got my first ticket ($ 25.00) for parking there (and I picked up the beach trash that morning).I called the town hall to see if they have non-resident stickers, yup , they do.... $200.00 for the season (getting more like the Vinyard every year) BUT, that's a beach sticker, not the same as a resident sticker, won't work.
Now me and all the other guys who fised that spot ,but aren't residents are shut out, so the next time you see someone littering , remind them about closing spots, and if they act like they don't understand or don't care....STEP ON THEIR HEAD!! :af: :af: johnny "tRB"
spence 07-13-2004, 07:52 PM :af:
Surfcastinglife 07-13-2004, 08:06 PM something of the same like happened to where i love to fish in gloucester on the breakwater the parking lot was supposed to close at "dusk" but in years passed it wasnt enforced and i'd spend countless nights fishing there at nite its a great spot even in the day with amazing fishing at night
well this year they close the parking lot promptly at 8 o clock every night.
i asked one of the guards on my way out last saturday as to why they changed policy and it turned out people were getting snagged in the lobster bouies close to shore and dragging them in and stealing the lobster from them =[
BigFish 07-13-2004, 08:31 PM JTRB....sorry to hear that....people just will never, ever learn!:af:
If only they were from rhode island... oh the irony:laughs:
Notaro 07-13-2004, 09:38 PM u know what my mother says to me when i told her that i dont keep an undersized fish, "joe, we are vietnamese, we can do whatever we want." i told her that she is thinking like a primitive babrbarbian! i have to educate my family abt conservation of species. i saw a trip of canadian guys who went on a part boat last sumemr and took a small fluke. the mate checked it out and found it, but it was dead. he cldnt do anything abt it. the guy didnt measure it. he just took it as he pleased.
well, johnny the rat boy, just a suggestion, if u see those fuys from lowell, use a gun to scare them off...:D
sorry, man.
Slipknot 07-14-2004, 05:59 AM Go to Lowell and take a huge crap in their apt. building and see how they like it:af:

Good for you Notaro :) but maybe barbarian might be a little harsh for your mom :)
And it's not just your family, you can educate others too.
beachwalker 07-14-2004, 06:36 AM Go to Lowell and take a huge crap in their apartment building and see how they like it
who would notice ?
likwid 07-14-2004, 07:00 AM jeeze notaro... where the hell does she get off with that type of attitude?
i just really want to understand this.
its not the first incident of hearing/seeing asians taking short fish without batting an eye (sidenote: one of my best friends is vietnamese... her mom LOVES striped bass and i pack with dry ice and ship same day filets a couple times a year to her family)
i just really want to understand how the hell people can have attitudes like that.
Notaro 07-14-2004, 09:33 AM back in the country, people were so poor. so they dont care abt the laws and they just keep whetever they think is legal enough in their own opinions. and that still applies to them today, but not all of them, some of them disagree with that like me. i know a hmong girl and she was so freaking stupid and 26 yrs old. she blabbed and exaggerated abt her family keeping a legal fish, but also implied that her family doesnt know a squat abt the laws. i dont fish with my family members. i usually fish alone. just wait till you hear this, when i told my mom that i caught a 22 inches striper and she told me where was it. and i told her that it swam back into the water. and she said that i was freaking stupid.
she said to me, "joe, u re such an anal retenative. supposed a striped bass is 26 inches or 27 inches, but close enough to 28, would u keep it or release it?"
i replied to her, "release."
then her reaction, "phhfft."
Bruce, i said it. yes, u are right. then she starts to fear to talk to me about it. i just tell her that she can enjoy those saltwater leisures like clamming and etc, but in a lawful way. yes, i tried to talk to others, but they dont listen. i will continue to do that when i see them doing something illegal unless it is a drug releated, i will avoid it from getting capped in the ass.:D
beachwalker 07-14-2004, 09:43 AM so we are all in agreement ?
that most friggin' asians don't give a rats ass about the legalilties of kiling fish ?
it's nothing new is it ? :smash:
chipwood 07-14-2004, 09:47 AM I was jigging some squid this spring and 4 Asian gentleman came down with coolers and rods and began fishing for squid. These guys were 30-40yrs old. One guy hooks a lobster that was way short. He was so excited as it went right into the cooler. I just shook my head. Every year I have some nice conversations with the Asian folks down there. Other locals give them a real hard time. These people are down there doing what we're doing. Many times I have said something to people taking fish but it just does'nt seem to get through and I'm not about to reach into someone's stuff and throw fish back. That's not the way to go about it. I understand it's hard to change the way people have done things for many years but something has to be done about people following the rules. And that just does'nt apply to one group.
striprman 07-14-2004, 09:52 AM It is sad when anyone thinks it ok to ignore the law.

Not all of us, some of us here give a rat ass about it.;)
SmokeBringer 07-14-2004, 10:04 AM Your story happens all of the time. I live near the water (not on it sorry to say) and we get vans up here on the North end of Jametown full of people. The folks who own the water access now have to turn everyone away because of the litter and noise that come swith the vans.
I bought a boat this year and this was one of the primary reasons for doing so - to be able to fish with my kids in peace and quite.
Smoke
to bad we couldnt label them as terrorists:hihi:
BigFish 07-14-2004, 01:25 PM Hey guys....I know that we see many folks of Asian decent scoffing at the laws that most of us follow....however I think it is "WRONG" to target them in general and to insult those Asian Americans that are friends here on the board!!!!:af: I see many white trash pieces of crap out there ignoring those same laws...even more so than folks of other ethnic origin! What makes us "white" folk any better than any other ethnic group??? Could you check your shoe size to see if you can fit your foot in your mouth before you label other ethnic groups!!!!:smash: :smash: :smash:
beachwalker 07-14-2004, 01:39 PM Notaro & Bigfish:
DO I NEED TO HIGHLIGHT THE WORD "MOST" ?
Please read the words before knee jerking along through your replies.
Coming from a family who adopted 2 vietnamese children during the late 70's I think I was very kind in my wording in the previous post.
Maybe that one didn't didn't piss you off but I think Notaro should read it. Especially after what you told us your mom said about it. Proof is in the pudding.
It's almost like someone was waiting for one of us to say what I said.
Get a life :laughs: :laughs: :laughs:
Notaro 07-14-2004, 01:42 PM i wasnt pissed. i edited my post because i wasnt sure that if it sounds right or not, u know? BW, u re a good man who battles for wit with BM online. BigFish is trying to make sure that this doesnt get out of control by others.
BigFish 07-14-2004, 01:49 PM Do you have some reason to feel as though I was targeting you directly BW? If so then you have my apologies, I was not slamming you or anyone else, simply trying to enlighten some to the fact that this crap goes on in all walks of life and ethnic groups....not just Asian or African American, white people or people with pink stripes and purple polka-dots.:smash:
All people suck in my opinion.....and they need not be from one ethnic group or skin color......ignorance is a disease that afflicts many......not all but most. (As you say BW....no harm I hope?);)
beachwalker 07-14-2004, 01:52 PM Thanks BF. Notaro just told me the same.
you see I am a total slob and people are always trying to nail me for it here. Like this place is beautiful or something, Jeez.
I was hoping to pin all the blame on the asian boyz
Eben, you getting me in trouble chief ? :laughs:

beachwalker 07-14-2004, 02:02 PM no shiite :laughs:
TheRattBoy 07-14-2004, 03:51 PM That's why I started off saying color or race don't matter as long as you 're respectful, I don't care.
Two officiers told me last year that they know it's the asians making the mess but they can't post a sign saying "no asians allowed", cause what lawyer wouldn't love to get that discrimination case! I understand what he's sayin', just ain't right they screw it up for all of us. :af: johnny "tRB"
Notaro 07-14-2004, 03:52 PM man, this sucks. people like that have no consciences
Slingah 07-14-2004, 05:20 PM Whew....that was a close one:pop:

my thougths exactly. I argue with the girlfriend all the time. Regardless of where we are or what we are doing.
People suck. there are the few and far between that don't.
And the members of this board seem to fit in the far and few between catagory. :D
RiverRatt 07-14-2004, 07:45 PM Hey Ratt Boy I feel for'ya man....
I know we talked about this the other night...
I thought I was in heaven when you turned me onto that spot we've taken alot of nice fish from there :)
And it sux that we may never be able to fish there again ( or keep opening the wallet till they tow our trucks ) :af:
Why can't people be responsible enough to just clean up after themselves....If we all did that there would be no problems with access
I'm getting tired of getting run out of the places I love to fish because of a small group of slobs :af:
TheRattBoy 07-14-2004, 07:52 PM We could always do a little "recon" trip...got canoe? ;)
