View Full Version : That Poor Woman Who Won The $294,000,000,000
BigFish 07-14-2004, 05:13 PM What is with people!!!:af: The woman is now being hounded for handouts from people all over the country....can you believe that!!!!:smash: I would rather not win it at all for cryin' out loud! (Well, almost) Thing is when you win that much money....better know going in that your life will never be nearly the same no matter how hard you try to keep it that way!:( All the money in the world can't buy that kind of happiness!
She has all that money and I feel bad for her.:( People have big brass ones man!:gorez:
fishaholic18 07-14-2004, 06:16 PM I wish I was that poor woman.:laughs:
Slingah 07-14-2004, 06:33 PM gimme your plugs
BigFish 07-14-2004, 06:33 PM Picture this F-18....your life, as you knew it can never be the same....all the simple pleasures are gone! You want to go fishing with your buddies but they all have their hand out for a loan.....you go to your favorite gin mill to have a few beers and chit chat and everyone thinks you are a cheap bastard because you do not pick up one tab out of a hundred! Phone rings constantly from people looking for a hand out or wanting to sell you something....all the junk mail, people knocking on your door! And all the rest of the people you know who think you owe them something.....and all of the people you have not seen in years who come out of the woodwork to "be your best buddy"! Trust me....it happens! Much as it might be great to have the money for anything you would want to buy....the ability to exist as just a simple ordinary good-joe is gone! Money can't buy that!;)
Then there is the family....boy, I almost forgot them! So-and-so gets mad because you bought so-and-so a car that cost more than his, and so-and-so wants a house as big as the one you bought for so-and-so.....:smash: everyone just turns into a bunch of so-and-so's!:D
TheSpecialist 07-14-2004, 06:34 PM I was actually suprised that on the news the day she went in for the check, they were in front of her house, and gave out the address on the air. :smash:
capesams 07-14-2004, 06:40 PM she should have set up a trust and had her lawyer pic up the check..keeping her name unknown to the public, but I don't think it can be done that way...state rules??
Slingah 07-14-2004, 06:46 PM I'd do just fine with all that dough:humpty:
bassmaster 07-14-2004, 07:26 PM Id do fine with Your plugs:D

That's OK, I'm an anti-social bastard to start with :laughs: :D
My mother's 84. She'd be happy with a check for $500,000. I'd give my sister a few million, she's single. no kids, owns her house and car outright, 2 million would make her set for life even without her guaranteed state employee pension. My father, all of my aunts and uncles and a few of my cousins are dead. The rest of my cousins, I'd have no problem telling them to go pound sand. :smash:
My wife would probably buy her boat-bum brother out in California a new sailboat which would make him set for life in his own way. 3000 miles would insulate her from the rest of her relatives, most of whom she has less use for than I do my cousins :hihi:
fishaholic18 07-14-2004, 07:58 PM I'm with Mike, I'm anti social and grumpy myself. I'd set up my family and the few friends I have, and.......SEE YA.....I'm gone fishin'! I'd also hire a mob of body guards to fend off the moochers.:laughs:
Well, it ain't gonna happen anyway. Was exciting thinking about it though. Thanx BF!!!!:laughs:
bassmaster 07-14-2004, 08:58 PM I would have a trust for the kids set up
the Money would be the company and they would live off intrest
I would Buy commercial real estate in that trust also
I would Buy a house on the water and have a home in fla or some island.
I would have toys up the wazzoo boat ect.
Then it would be take care of Buddy time
Like My close friends pay there house off ect.
there would be a set amount set aside for this.
hell Ya couldnt blow all that doe stupid in a life time.
Squid kids Dad 07-14-2004, 09:17 PM AHHHH...To have such a problem......
ThrowingTimber 07-15-2004, 07:24 AM Lawyer
set up trusts, realestate etc
all my nieces and nephews would be set for school k through grad

:humpty:
Backbeach Jake 07-15-2004, 07:48 AM Did anyone else notice what a BABE she was?
fishweewee 07-15-2004, 07:49 AM Problem would be avoided if you could be an anonymous winner.
Either that, or you publicly declare you're donating all the money to charity (and privately that charity is yourself). :laughs:

99 year lease
even if you won the lottery i wouldn't dare try to snag it from them
you'd be found floating in vineyard sound :D
boating accident don't ya know
Big Vern 07-15-2004, 08:12 AM I believe you could set up a blind trust to claim the winnings anonymously, but I could be wrong. There is nothing I'd rather in that instance than to have some expensive lawyer in front of that podium firing out lines like "Yes, the money has been claimed" and "Yes the winner is elated". No letters from people begging me to pay their mortgage.
Meanwhile, I'd be out shopping for a house on the water on the Cape and a sweet boat to park out back.
KLMulder 07-15-2004, 08:24 AM Let's see 294 mill. I would take the cash opp so I would get a check for about 176.4 mil then the IRS would take about 40% of that to leave me with 105.84 mil free and clear. 25mil to get set up the way I would want to be and put 80 mil in the bank to live off the intrest. at .75% that would be 600K per year. yea I could do that.
Big Vern 07-15-2004, 09:21 AM .75%....Nope...they have these things called muni bonds - You'd be looking at something more like at least 3% tax free. You could proably swing a coupon closer to 4% on a portfolio like that.
3.2 MM a year would be much clser to it.
KLMulder 07-15-2004, 09:52 AM you got it. I was just thinking the easy route of a saveing acct. other options would bring you more in int but would be harder to get to on a whim.

He's busy fending off the IRS weasles
ThrowingTimber 07-15-2004, 11:41 AM :D
Jumbo cd rates are an other easy option. Rates arent that bad, get a niiiiice portfolio going with that kinda scratch
Big Vern 07-15-2004, 12:19 PM They do issue non-AMT bonds, but they're a little scarcer. Otherwise, you're right - AMT would kill you.
Nevertheless, if you're making less than 3-4 percent on money of that size, there's a major problem with your strategy.
Flaptail 07-15-2004, 12:50 PM I would buy Bassmaster a custom pink Hummer and a custom pink 21 foot Sea-Craft! Then me, him, Slip and Stiiftip would commence our round the world non-stop fishing vacation for a year. Costa Rica, Belize, New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii, Patagonia, Russia ( for the Atlantic Salmon) Chaulk streams in England, Panama. Andros Island, Australia's north Coast for Black Marlin, Peru for giant Swordfish and anywhere else we could think of. All expenses paid by me plus enough for thier families to live off comfortably for a couple years while we are gone!:D

Equities, man!
Park 2-3 MM in gov't treasuries, that should get you above $100K+ a year in pre-tax interest. Then invest the rest in growth stocks or real estate.
You be a billionaire in no time. :D
chris L 07-15-2004, 03:24 PM hey binny your back !
I think you are obligated to claim publicly and that they have the right to use your name in advertising. I think I read this in the small print one time when taking a dump.
I would dissapear for 5 year.
Traveling. 5 star accomidations everywhere. Travel light when and buy what I need when I get there. Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, South America.
Come back 5 years later and set up nice. private compound, the works.
When you have that kind of money I don't think you have to talk to anyone. Try getting in touch with some of these very rich guys... next to impossible.
-Zac
