was when the 1967 Cardiac Kids lost the World Series in seven! Here is a list of managers the Sox have had dating back to #^&#^&#^&#^& Williams in 1967.

Grady Little
Joe Kerrigan
Jimy Williams
Kevin Kennedy
Butch Hobson
Joe Morgan
John McNamara
Ralph Houk
Don Zimmer
Darrell Johnson
Eddie Kasko
Eddie Popowski

Not exactly a "who's who" of great baseball managers......more like a "who the heck is he"!!!

Go back even further in history and you will see the shallow pool of managers the Sox have had over the years!!!!:af: This is the problem here in Boston! Look at the managers the Yankees have had over the years.......Stengel, Houk (when he was a young man with balls), Billy Martin, Yogi Berra...among others....not exactly the bunch of second string, hand-me-down, look who I found to manage minor league rejects that the Sox have had over the years!!!!!!!:smash:

Now we have the venerable Terry Francona my friends......and he is not longed for this team!

For the record...at the time the Sox hired #^&#^&#^&#^& Williams...even he was a wet behind the ears, no experience manager! So who have we ever had that was truely a great manager?

boy bf, you put it in perspective, out of the 12 you listed i can't find a good one! send francona and his 3 yr deal back to where he comes from. i still think our biggest problem starts with ownership, they hired all these clowns. what to do?, theres 3 good mgrs in the game that i know of- torey, larussa, and pinella and they're not coming. heeellllppppp!!!!!!

I think Pinella would come here....are you kidding me with the lineup we have.....and I understand he hates it where he is....where the heck is he?

What the Sox need is a manager who has already proven himself in the major leagues......not another pitiful replacement type!:smash:

Rumor on NY sports radio is that Stump Merrill's been talking to the Sox ownership on the down low. He's in at the end of July if things don't improve.

Stump Merrill!!!!:af: Yup! Add him to the growing list of Bozo's the Sox have had as managers over the years......I believe Stump "stumped" as manager for the Yankees for a cup of coffee or two am I correct?:smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:

Yup! Just checked....1990-91....a record of 120-155.... sure, sign him up.....he fits the profile for all of the managers the Sox have ever hired as I have said!:af: No balls, no experience (or very little and all of that bad), and add no brains to the list!

Can anyone tell me what Stump (great name) Merrill has been doing since 1991? Other than trying to forget his two seasons as the manager of the New York Yankees?:laugha:

You got it right Afterhours....#14 is for sure!;)

:bl: Its good we can laugh about this....the cryin' comes later!:bc:

Hiring Stump Merrill to replace the guy (Terry Francona) that they just signed is similar to that Three Stooges episode where Curly is drilling holes in the bottom of the boat to let the water out!!!! :smash:

Yeah. He was pretty good, from what I've read. I don't think he was in Stump's league, but he was good. :D
