Lets talk West Systems epoxy.

I've used it before to seal marine plywood on dories and whatnot, whats the consequences of using it as a sealer instead of say linseed oil etc. on plugs?

Note: I have 25 GALLONS of this stuff to use.
So its not an issue for trial and error. :D

the consequences are that you ought to use a 2 part epoxy primer before painting. Other than that, I think if you heat the plug blank up in an oven for a bit, then seal it with epoxy you are going to have a very well protected plug after the second coat goes on. Too much trouble for me for something that is gonna get wrecked anyway but go for it.

technically the inherent bouyancy of the wood should be intact and not weight it down too much
AS LONG as you sand it down after each coat and you're not slobbing it on.

West is pretty light if you use it right.
