I have only fished Nar. Bay once in this season back in May. I hear that the Bluefish are everywhere!

My secret hot spot for fluke last year was on the west side of Beavertail Neck just south of Austin Hollow. Looking for suggestions to try this coming Sunday.

I did not catch one bass last year in Nar. Bay....I'm thinking of a tube n worm around beavertail point and under the schools of blues....but does anyone have any suggestions to increase my chances of pleasing my guests??

The mass of bluefish are more up from Greenwich Bay to Conamicut and along Barrington beach. Most recent reports say it was hot north of Prudence Island. From what I saw last week in the greenwich area , later afternoon is good.

For Bass , several reports have said that umbrellas are working better than tube and worm. You mentioned Beavertail and from there its just a short ride to Brenton Reef. IMO , That's where you'll have your best shot at good size Bass. I think early mornig. If the weathers bad , don't go there , it gets rough. You could try up around Hope Island if its bad out.

Reefs, that anything like a ledge:rolleyes: , rocks are our friends.

Welcome back Gus... Couple things: If you see a big school of blues on the surface and motor through to tube-n-worm the potential of bass below - you'll most likely put down the school and break it up. IF you're gonna do that AND the other boat traffic is light (on Narr Bay - not likely) you can work the periphery... Your best best is to have the local NOAA chart and the local Cap'n Seagulls chart and mark the ledges, aka reefs, if you're going to troll. Find the ledges and work where it drops off. you also need to get your gear down and dirty on the bottom - far easier on the tube (and less $$ when things go wrong)...

GS, some of them even flush... Hope to try out a couple of spots with JR, maybe next weekend.

Gus, got a keeper striper plugging the rocks at the south end of Prudance Island this morning, then snoop around for shellfish, blues everywhere N/S/E? pf Hope , t wharf, Dyer island all morning// Just ride -- looking , and listen to the chatter on channel 65, good luck///

John R....thanks for pointing out not to troll through a school....I reread my post and it was the wording that was screwed up....I plan to troll tubes or when working a school trying underneath...ie casting a sinking lure and working below the feeding frenzy!

I also find it extremely aggravating when someone crashes through a school like that!!!

I went on a charter a few weeks ago and noticed that the captain trolled at 3.2-4knots when using a 9er rig.....and we were bagging the bass left and right, I was surprised at how fast he was trolling (The Boston Harbor). When we used the tubes he was trolling 1.5-2.5knots as I would have guessed....do you guys have any comments on that?

One other question, when trolling brenton reef or any reef for that matter, how close do you try to get....as close as you can without purchasing a new lower unit?? I always error on the side of conservatism and stay too far away which probably puts me out of striking range.

Clammer....is pojac point and the east side of patience Island a good place to dig for clams?? Is there good clamming on the south side of Prudence? Where might one go to find mussels??

Gus, Pojac pt is most likely if you mean steamers,Saturday I got some on the west side of patience , tough digging, more like rock moving, small mussels around ,larger in deeper water that you can;t reach. Real small ones on the southern bar at Dyer Island this morning//
