View Full Version : Anybody Absolutely Knockin' 'Em Dead?
Crafty Angler 07-22-2004, 08:59 AM I sure as hell ain't......
Bait's a little sparse, a few pods of bigger fish here and there but nothing consistent.
Been all over the Island, even hit a few places I haven't been to in years just to keep 'em honest 'til 2 AM
Not like it's necessary - no spot burning, as usual....
S-Journey 07-22-2004, 09:07 AM Yes, found a huge pod of 20-30# fish that I was able to fish by myself for a few days:-) Hopefully they are still waiting for me on Sat.
The Ocean runner jigs I got from Fisherwomen and baitcaster at Old Salt kicked &*^!
Notaro 07-22-2004, 09:24 AM i ahven't been able to hit up anthing. I fished last weekend. my favorite spot in falmouth always has a consistent bluefish action, but now it has became a scup consistent terrority. This year seemed screwed.
RIROCKHOUND 07-22-2004, 11:18 AM Spotty here, but havent been out much the past 10 days.... tougher to find em when I aint fishing 4-5 nights a week:smash:
I cant wait for the fall.............
beachwalker 07-22-2004, 11:34 AM beach fishing has slowed considerably but I have been fishing the harbor with the kayak. Fish are VERY picky. Have taken a few 20#ers but that has been some work.
I put the fishfinder on the yak and have marked some huge fish, sat patiently waiting for the rod to go down and NOTHING !
Bummer but I am having a blast. May go fluking tomorrow in the yak.
:)
Rappin Mikey 07-22-2004, 02:19 PM Things have really slowed down for me since the fish left Western MA  Now I can only fish on the weekends when I can afford to drop 100$ on gas. I have been getting at least 1 keeper every time I go though.(big deal) Hopefully I will be posting some nice pictures on Monday. Meeting up with the Rickman and the #^&#^&#^&#^&man (brother and father) tomorrow night to sling some eels off the back beaches. Watch out fishies here comes the family Bomba!!!
Skip N 07-22-2004, 02:42 PM Started seeing lots of tiny bait (peanut Bunker?) on the east side of upper narragansett bay over the weekend. Losts of small blues on them. Damn fun on light tackle! Hopefully the blues come in again in force this fall up here....Last year really sucked! Looks promising so far though.
Hooked4ever 07-22-2004, 02:50 PM Skip, if you're wondering about blues, central Jersey is completely invaded and occupied with blues. Blues of 10-12# are coming in regularly in the surf, or so i've been told by friends down there. I get to finally check it out this weekend. But I'm told the blues are around in force hitting everything and anything u toss out.
partsjay 07-22-2004, 03:10 PM Don't know if it's just me but, this has been the hardest year for me in a long time. Have had mutliple trips in a row that I have been skunked. Maybe I'm just not a good fisherman anymore. I will say that the toughest part of fishing for me this year has been finding spots.....lots of old spots can't fish anymore, and having a tough time finding new ones. I have been trying to learn how to fish beaches more and that is taking up most of my time so that is 1 reason why but...have to go back to basics I guess.
basswipe 07-22-2004, 03:42 PM Crafty,
Went again lastnight at that same spot.Skunkage.1st night I go
big with 3 keepas.2nd a couple of shorts as you know and last night the big skunkage.Gonna take a break tonight.I hoping the big surf returns before that water gets to warm.
UserRemoved1 07-22-2004, 04:17 PM Woods hole was on fire all day today, my arms are tired :D
Flaptail 07-22-2004, 06:35 PM Last night sucked. Of course we should have gone down south as was confirmed by our post tide conversation with someone who was where we weren't. Oh well.
cheferson 07-22-2004, 07:43 PM bUTT LOADS OF BLUES BLITZING BEHIND MY WORK RIGHT THIS SECOND!!
CowHunter 07-22-2004, 08:22 PM I'm gonna do some serious Damage the next three nights ;-)
CowHunter 07-22-2004, 08:22 PM Near perfect Tides...
Cow hunter thats a nice avitar how big is that cow?
Clammer 07-22-2004, 08:52 PM ya hope the BLOOOOOOOOofish come in ====================:smash:
CowHunter 07-22-2004, 08:55 PM 5/0, I believe around 31-32lbs...Going back about 2-3 Octobers...
CowHunter 07-22-2004, 09:02 PM Just changed it to something more recent...
Crafty Angler 07-23-2004, 06:02 AM Let's be careful out there - the swell has diminished over the last 24 hrs. but there's a low moving up the coast and wave heights of 6' were predicted -
I'm gonna recon my spots during daylight so I'll be ready for the nite game - my spots can get untenable during a good swell, if ya wanna live to a ripe old age...
Wait a minute, ome to think of it, I'm getting pretty ripe as it is...:hihi:
Nice PIC Is that the Sun up?where did you get those Cow's grazing?
Roseneath 07-23-2004, 10:02 PM Tuesday night I caught my first "unofficial keeper" (from shore)... it was probably 30" but I didn't have a tape, so he went back in the drink... I'll get him again in a few years.
Wednesday night I fished The Walk at the tip of ***** **** big surf, white water, no fish.
Thursday night I was on the canal... got skunked.
:smash:
gonna be on a boat this weekend... I hope to pull a few heavies off the bottom of the ocean, but the wind and weather don't appear to be too favorable.
Crafty Angler 07-24-2004, 08:10 AM Hit a 25# last nite at 1 AM at ******* ***** on a recently deceased eel just as the tide turned - and it was the only hit I got all nite.
Nearly lost it too - took off like a bat outta hell and headed due south for the ONLY pot buoy in the entire area and yup, wrapped right around it.:wall: EXACTLY the way I lost another similar sized fish a month ago :af:
Tried waiting her out, loosened the drag to give her line and hopefully get off the buoy - no luck.
So I finally screwed down the drag, pulled the line as tight as I could without breaking off and started twanging it like a guitar string - ya know, I've heard about that for years but never tried it - and it worked. The bass moved away from the pot buoy and I got it in.
I had planned to release it but it was so exhausted it would've just ended up as crab food - I don't think it would have survived what turned out to be a fifteen minute tussle and the Gami was so deep I couldn't even see it.
So it's bass on the grill tonite, I guess - not that that's a bad thing :) - if it will stop raining.
cheferson 07-24-2004, 02:04 PM Nice crafty!
