View Full Version : jiggin the ditch
Smokey 08-26-2001, 08:17 AM Saltheart and I lined the ditch with some jigs friday night. There were some small ones hitting the surface close to shore. Bluefish are still around chomping plastic just behind the hook.I did slay one striper 32.5 Lg. I had a five week span where I hadn't felt a hit.
The stitches are out of my finger and I'm ready to slay some bass.
Slipknot 08-26-2001, 10:19 AM Nice fish Smokey. 5 weeks is a long stretch, that fish must have been a big relief.
jettyjockey18 08-26-2001, 11:09 AM know the feeling...think i caught 3 fish the past 4 weeks until the last half of this week...the bite seems to have turned back on...
Nice to hear you got a decent fish Smokey. Even better to hear your finger is back in business! :)
JohnR 08-27-2001, 09:31 AM Nice fish Smokey!!!
patrickswoman 08-27-2001, 09:43 AM that sounds great! glad to see things are picking up...maybe patrick can catch something good soon too. I hope things are better when I go back out.
Fishpart 08-27-2001, 10:47 AM Smokey, good to hear of something other than world record star fish. ;) Maybe I'll help you guys reduce the jig inventory a little more.
Saltheart 08-27-2001, 11:18 AM Conditions were perfect. Can't believe there weren't more fish. Oh well. Smokeys fish was a good fish. Nice fight. We fished the east end for 2 hours with no luck then over to the middle and he got a fish. I got double chomped by a blue but no other action at all. Not even a bump.
I'm just paying dues towards that big one someday. Fishing should be picking up good with the cooler nights now. Best 2 months coming up.
I know what you mean Mike. I'm putting in my time for my big one, too :D in a couple of weeks things will start to get hot :)
chris L 08-27-2001, 01:17 PM smokey nice fish ! glad to hear your finger is doing much better . Bet you wont do that again ? keep those fingers out of ....... never mind
LOL Ill be up that way in 2 weeks ( I hope )
JPowers 08-27-2001, 02:46 PM Nice fish Smokey. What did that bugger fall for?
BTW, we're not too happy with you outta state guys absconding with OUR fish. You put that fish back, buddy ?
Hey J Powers can't blame us guys for tyring. Some drive farther than others to get to your playground ;)
Saltheart 08-27-2001, 04:51 PM Yes he put it back. It was bigger than what he said too. That was the fork length.
Smokey 08-27-2001, 09:10 PM I started with white shad bodies then white with dark back, on takers. As soon as I changed to black curltails first cast I had a hit. Second cast I had it on and landed. Next Cast a small one on for 15 seconds. The rest were tail pullers. I remembered the 30 pounders you threw back for luck. Hopefuly by me putting this one back it brings me luck.
East Tide 08-27-2001, 11:28 PM Smokey and saltheart, What the heck is going on here!!! The guys that make eel skin jigs come up to the eel skin capital of the world from another state and don't use their own product!!!!Agghhhhhh.....Fish in the canal like mr eelskins, unless of course you guys aren't vampires, ohh noooo, I hope thats not the case :)
Saltheart 08-28-2001, 07:40 AM The truth is , every single eel skin jig we have made has been sold to a begging customer. I think Smokey got to fish one and I got none! We will be working to remedy that situation. Smokey's Fish was taken about 10:30 PM.
JPowers 08-28-2001, 10:51 AM I don't mind begging. Those jigs are that good. Haven't forgotten me , right ? Old buddy old friend.
Saltheart 08-28-2001, 12:23 PM I've been waiting for the "I'll get back to you" email Jim. You want the 2 dozen we discussed?
