From the 'Dammit-I-Meant-To-Post-This-A-Coupla-Months-Ago' file - or possibly the 'Hey, you goofy old bastard, don't post crap until you're fully awake because you ALREADY posted this photo a coupla months ago' - but I don't think so - anyhooooo....

This is the chromed 704 I've been using for all my eeling this season - it was a gift from the esteemed Senor Habs (El grande artiste Americano) The mojo on it felt good from the git-go and so far - given the off and on again fishing - it's been berry, berry good to me.

Something about it always reminds me of an old school Harley 74 chopper -

Got it paired up with the old Murat 10'6" honey glass Lami - it's a funky retro set-up and it works like a bastid, as we used to say on the wharves of my yout' - usually over a coupla long-neck Narries -

I know I've chirped about it before, but I figured I'd post it after finding the image while I was pooping around in Photoshop earlier.

Yeah, I thought you guys would like to see a new twist on the old reliable 704, sort of American Chopper-style - hey, what do ya think the tonnage is that 704's have pulled up through the wash over the years?

Tell ya the truth, I've really enjoyed getting reacquainted with a reel that feels like an old friend -

Yeah, Tony, I did put a 706 handle on it back in June - the old style torpedo handle always bugged me - makes a real difference over the course of a long night.

Yup, loaded the case with Teflon Superlube like ya said, Eben - which silences the clicker noise of the anti-reverse for silent running - and tightens it up a bit, too - take one of the fiber washers out and replace it with another teflon -

Ya know, I was rereading a book by Kip Farrington who was a fishing pal of Hemingway and Zane Gray and the saltwater editor of Field and Stream from 1937 to 1972 - 35 years - and he said his favorite reels were his Penns - this from a guy who had Vom Hofes, custom-machined Kavolovskys, Fin-Nors, you name it.

Kinda like the design of an old M-1 or an old Harley - not real exotic, not state of the art but classic and ordinarily pretty damned dependable - quirks and all. And easy to repair with readily available parts. Not bad for fairly short money -

So what's wrong with that?:confused::huh:

Nothin' :smokin:

Bigfish - meant to tell ya -

Ya ask yourself, is it flourocarbon or Photoshop...

Well, it's both :p - whatever works best -

I have two old 704's giveb to me with lami boat rods by the late charter captain I used to work for. I don't use them too much but they make me smile every time I look at them. Both still work great...
