any of you guys troll plugs for bass?
what type of gear do you use?
mono, leadcore, wire,braid?
favorite trolling plugs?


im just getting into trolling, being the 1st real year ive had a boat.

mono works fine with plugs

any big swimmers work well trolling nice and slow
other popular stuff: ragmops, tube + worm, umbrella rigs with either tubes or shads

I use wire for deep and braid for shallow conditions.

I like big single plugs (wood/plastic/and eelskins) trolled slow at night but I have my collection of 9'ers when I get need to load up on fish.:D

It is a lazy way fo fishing but it produces. I have not mastered the tube and worm yet. I have caught fish on it but not like the pro's do. I have a tub of tubes but I do better with a single plug or a parachute then a tube.

Not my favorite way to fish... eel slinging in shallow water is.

got some small blues last night trolling some big bombers along the airport, and hooked but lost a much bigger fish. it was most likely a bass, heavy fish , took 1 long run , into my backing, then he spit it.

The Gags Slammer is an amazing trolling lure!

It offers little rod resistance in the water for a 6 3/4'' 2.5oz plug...

If you put a spro barrel swivel onto the rear split ring with a siwash hook with a nice bucktail as well as a spro swivel on the front split ring, it magnifies the action and offers a deadly looking swagger in the water.

They come in 9 colors that represent 80% of the baitfish out there, and it often outfishes tube & worm...

I agree, that is a good lure. I picked up a few when I met Mr. Gags at the MSBA show. I have caught a few decent nice fish with it. I even tried it surfcasting in the spring and was successful . I was impressed with its action given it has no lip. IMO it is a little too light but it still works well and is perfect for single plug trolling. I am going to try that spro replacement hook you mention.

It adds so much action to the plug, that you'll want to jump in and bite it yourself!

The beauty of this plug is in the many ways you can fish it!...

Given the fact that this plug floats and dives on the retrieve,

when it is fished S L O W L Y it leaves a nice wake!

A little birdie told me that there will be a smaller version of this plug coming out in the future that is going to cast like a bullet!

Although the Slammer is on the lighter side comparitively, If you cast this plug sidearm in the surf, it goes out there quite nicely!

I absolutely love the versatility of this lure!

I would trick it out and troll it with leadcore or even wire to get it down deep at this time of year...
