Coyotes are fairly quiet critters in comparison. snake slinger 08-02-2004, 06:48 PM hi ive spent a lot of nights in the woods hunting it was probably coyote they can really make some weared noises.but it could have been a lot of difrent animals some make crazy sounds snake slinger MAC 08-02-2004, 07:11 PM Mabee a rabbit....... Out west they used to catch jack rabbits (hares) and break a leg or 2 to lure in the yotes. The screech the rabbits make is unnerving . Not to hijack your thread but they used house cats too. ( didn't break their legs though.) The cat would be placed in a havahart trap and left to sit out of sight. After an hour or so the cat would start to meow. You should see the yotes come running.:D They (coyotes) are hard to hit on the run. 5/0 08-02-2004, 07:43 PM Thanks for the support on this off beat issue but I hate to be one of those peoplebut it was quite freaky. It started around 03:45 and stoped when it got past me around 04:00. It was in the distance coming from Bourne senic park, you could hardly make out what the sound was. Then it got closer and you could hear it better.I first thought it was a chicks scream,Thinking #^&#^&#^&#^& some guys being an #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& he's beatin his chick! But this was different it was presistant. It kept screaming. It would scream pause for a second or too then it would do it again & again and again. So then I thought OK it's some kids out getting smashed & being a little vocal. So as the sound got closer I looked to my right waiting to see some kids on the bike path..... there wasn't anybody. What the #@% ! It was really close know you could really hear it Scream pause & scream again, but the freaky part about it was, it was in the woods and it was moving in good time I didn't hear one twig nor limb break or any rustling of leaves. Just that Fickin Screaming! It just came & went by me heading down toward the Cribbin. I don't know if it was a Bionic coyote with some serious issues or if was a screeching owl.The whole frickin feasco was weird :pop: I grew up surround by acres of woods & party many hours into the Am & have seen Deer,Muskrats, beaver, racoons, posumes, fox's silver fox ect.ect.I have even come close to a coyote before. But what the:confused: I've only been fishing the Canal for ten years & I have never heard anything like that, Ever! 5/0 justplugit 08-02-2004, 08:26 PM Could have been a red fox. They make sounds similar to what you describe. Probably the same one that scared the@#$$% out of me when i was a kid camping out and sent me running home with my tail between my legs:D CAL 08-02-2004, 10:19 PM Originally posted by Newell Guy Mabee a rabbit....... Looked in the mirror and saw it was still alive so I stopped to put it down because I didn't want it to suffer. The noise it was making sent a chill down my spine. Only time I ever heard a rabbit make any noise. KJLane 08-02-2004, 10:32 PM you ever hear a screech owl before? that's what it sounds like to me. probably was flying around your location. theSURF121 08-03-2004, 05:23 AM I stayed at my friends house in Chatham this past June and Coyotes were all over the place. Didn't realize the Cape had so many. You could hear them calling throughout the day. Came into the yard as soon as the grill was fired up. That's my guess, those things will make your hair stand up! Duke41 08-03-2004, 07:45 AM I heard a high pitch screeching one night when I was on a hunting trip in Texas..went over with a friend to see what it was. As we walked throught a meadow at night with our flashlights. Behold we came upon the most unholy thing I have ever had the misfortune to witness.....a pair of skunks screwing.. I ran all the way to Dallas. Thank God we didn't get sprayed as we were about 90 minutes from the closest town and only had about 2 gallons of water left. ProfessorM 08-03-2004, 11:10 AM Have seen many coyotes over the last several years in the wee hours at the canal. The fisherman are such slobs that there is plenty to eat for them. Got to within 10 ft. of 3 of them one night. They just went up into the woods until I passed and then went right back into the rocks to finish eating rats or bait or something. I work nights on the cape and always see a few on my ride home on cape and along 495 even in my yard. P.M. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
