I have a 12ft alm. with a Johnson 9.9 outbaord. Is it too small to take out in Barnstable Harbor? Or should I stick to working the Bass River. I would just like to take something home with some size to it. Any input would be very helpful. Thanks

I would stay inside the river most days, the SW winds are brutal if you go outside. Barnstable Harbor would be ideal for that size boat. Be at Blish Point ramp early tho or play the waiting game!

Be ready to love Barnstable Harbor. When the tide drops there are flats on the northside of Sandy Neck which are perfect to put the boat on and spend time with the family swimming and having fun if the fishing is slow!

How has the fishing been?

Bass River area has fluke, seabass, and scup in real good, smallish blues too. Bass, other than schoolies in the river, is real quiet; too warm.

I honestly don't know how Barnstable has been this year. Since I got a slip in Bass River, I haven't been up there. But I know that after dark, your chances of getting better fish go up quite a bit. Fluke and schoolies aplenty during the daylight usually.

I can't add anything to what Hooper already told you, but he's right. You will love B.H. you could easily spend the rest of the season there and not fish it all. So many options, wading, trolling, sight casting, bait in the holes at night, too many choices. Bass River is nice too, but Barnstable is much better suited for fishing. If you're boat is small enough there are a few more places to put it in where you won't have to wait.
