We are plannin on going out of Ryder's Cove/ Chatham Inlet back over to Monomoy tomorrow. Anyone one got some advice in/out of there in the fog? How about with the south west wind? Buddy is over there now, but he ran down from Edward's up in Falmouth. Would like to make the ride shorter/ cheaper by goin straight out. Ran a search and only info was from RI Rockhound, but he was ice fishin at that time.

So pretty much just need to know if it is tough gettin in and out in the fog. (do have radar)

Tough area in the fog, the channels change so quickly maps cannot keep up with it. I have seen many boats high and dry on the sand while I wade around on the flats. Talk to some locals and see if they can give you some up to date info on the shifting sands and shoals. Great area just be careful.

I second that.. we're in a 16ft tin boat, so going high and dry isnt a big deal... but go slow, follow the channel, and try not to go when it's foggy!?!?!?!?! :smash: :D :smash:

Seriously, I have GPS and Radar and I will not attempt a inlet run in the fog, instead I will take the route around the south tip of Monomoy.

Running those inlets at Chatham is tricky enough on a good day with some knowledge of where you're going. To try a new route, any route for that matter for the first time in the fog is going to be very hard if not impossible.

It is impossible to navigate the channel between north and south beach in the fog without having done it prior and saved it in your gps. Some days the fog is light enough to get half way out. There is one section where the channel is pretty shallow and at low tide with a swell you don't want to be caught broadside. Then you have to worry about the all the other boats zipping around out in the fog too!

This might be know as the summer of fog (or maybe a sequel 'another summer of fog') in Chatham.

I have been fishing Chatam all summer. The cut is nice this year compared to past years!!

But that said I have a map plotter and have marked all the bouys and hybouys all the way out!! You have to go slow and be ready for anything!!
Like a big boat going full throttle in the thick fog and does not see you till the last 2nd!!
That happened to me last week!!

Tomorrow will be fog!! If you wait till later in the week the wind will shift to the NW and there will be little or no fog say Thur. You can then mark all the bouys out for the next time.
The swells will be building tomorrow and wed as the storm coming up the coast, but will be mainly 4 foot swells. They might be breaking at the cut pretty good wed??


Now about the fishing!!

I use a 15 to 17 pound floro leader of about 2 feet, a #2 Gami bait hook, Yes #2 to no more then a 2/0. I start with a 3/4 oz egg sinker and increase to no more then 3 oz egg sinker

FRESH FRESH FRESH Sand eels!!! are the key!!

You will find the bigger fish at first light!! But don't expect any real monsters. Most of you fish for the day will be around the 33" mark, with a few bigger ones around.

Bigger fish will be way down on the bottom and taking wire set up with jigs. If thats your thing?

You can fish any where in a 1 mile circle around the C-Can and catch fish!!

3 guys in the boat at sun up can get 50 to 75 fish and be back at the ramp at Noon!!
