Make sure yiu switch the hooks. Big casmaters work well.

L jack jigs but they are pricey, I found cabelas Real Image jigs work just as well and you can buy then for about 2 bucka apiece. I have also done well with fishing small finess w/ jig head, small storm jigs, and other small plastics.

4 and 6 oz megabait metal jig. Comes rigged with a superstrong split ring and single hook...made for tuna.

If you do get one of the footballs and its > 27" whats the next process if you want to keep it? I've read that you have to bleed them out immediately...is this right??? Or should it jut be put on ice? Sushi options?

In addition to new hooks, I would change out the split rings also.

Bleed it. Single stab wound at the base of the pectoral fin or cut the gills. Stab is quicker and easier.
