Karl F 08-18-2004, 02:07 PM somebody please explain to me then...
Why do New Yorkers, and New Jersey folk drive to the cape to fish, when they got Montaulk? Also, Why in God's name do they drive right by, and thru Rhody? I don't get it, some of the best area to cover, and they come to this fish-barren, tired old sand bar.......maybe the ditch, but the outer... nahhh. :p
chris L 08-18-2004, 02:08 PM im into chunking the light when everyone else is plugging . I make many friends this way . I also use a large light or lantern on the balcony .
I also ask many questions and ask for spots at all tackle shops in town .
iluvspots 08-18-2004, 02:14 PM Hey, Martian-boy,
Don't you know the fishing is better on the North Fork?
There's a great little surfcasting spot called Plum Gut. You just need to walk a little further off the jetty at the cable crossing. Just a little. Don't worry about the rip, the water's real shallow there and you can walk out as far as you can. A full moon :bshake: is best.
InterPlanetaryAngler 08-18-2004, 02:19 PM Spots, why don't you go feed your eel to the bluefish at Shinnecock.
iluvspots 08-18-2004, 02:25 PM Martian-boy,
I want to introduce you to my friend Larry Pinkwaders. He is a thong-clad a-t-t-o-r-n-e-y, he'll make your eel wiggle, definitely your type. You and him would fit in real good at Fire Island.
InterPlanetaryAngler 08-18-2004, 02:39 PM IPA eel = kakuka
iluvspots eel = shoestring cabonga
chris L 08-18-2004, 02:46 PM IPA punches ILS in the eye who will have the shiner ?
Gloucester2 08-18-2004, 03:43 PM FWW

fishweewee 08-18-2004, 03:55 PM :faga:
MakoMike 08-18-2004, 03:58 PM FWW,
Where's Montauk?
chris L 08-18-2004, 04:00 PM glouster
you have won a day with weewee and a chance to go through his plug bag
fishweewee 08-18-2004, 04:34 PM Mike, I heard Montauk was somewhere in New Jersey.
Chris, you are mistaken, I won a chance to rummage through Gloucester2's cod jig bag.
ThrowingTimber 08-18-2004, 05:28 PM They drive by because there are no fish in RI :( Ever.... I'll settle the plug bag/jig bag dispute.... I'll go through both of them :D

Because there is no SAND in Rhode Island :laughs: :rotfl: :rotf2: :buds: :tooth: and you need to :walk: to spots. Besides we already have CT people, you can handle the Nx'Ers

The LIE. Unless you already live on Long Island there really is no such thing as a day trip out to Montauk. Three day weekends turn out to be 2 days of travel and a day to fish. My uncle though up in Bridgeport claims to take a short ferry ride out to Montauk for a long day of fishing. Life just sometimes doesn't seem right. I need to take a trip up to Bridgeport soon.
slapshot 08-19-2004, 10:18 AM Montauk is about an hours ride in the boat from Niantic. The fall fishing over there is incredible. Ablies and bass all over at times. Of course boat fish don't count, but I love it!
DaveS 08-19-2004, 12:24 PM Montauk = Crowds
I'll take a 3 day trip in Rhody anyday. Same fish, nicer people.
John E 08-19-2004, 01:18 PM Alberto,
I hope to make it out there a few times this fall. Maybe I'll even get a chance to pick up a few pointers from ya' if we meet up.
fishweewee 08-19-2004, 03:21 PM Seriously though, I don't know any other place that has more bass in the fall per square acre.
I'm talking in acreage terms for a reason...if you ever get out in a boat in late September, the sight you will see will just take your breath away.
Literally millions of bass over tens if not hundreds of acres, thousands of birds working. I ain't exaggerating, it's quite a sight to behold.
IMHO, Montauk has more bass.
New England generally holds more big fish for the surfcaster.
they all gotta go around that corner.Man they can stack up there.there where so many bass feedin on bait they where makin an eerie clackin sound never seen it anywhere but there.u could throw a pitchfork an get em 2 at a time.an thats no lie Take a buckail with 4' of line at the end of ur rod an figure eight it in the water an get em.its no wonder its crowded its the most amazing piece of surf u'll ever fish.an whats better than u an a few of ur buds throwin pencil poppers an gettem all day long.on the topwaters.nothin thats what.An I had some amazin times at other places like nantucket 10 days of fish 15 -35 lbs every cast.I mean if u dropped one two more turns of the handle an u where in again after midnight it was just our small group of 4 guys all to ourselves.but the topwater at Montauk is still my favorit. An when they'r killen em in the daylight there U can go out at night an pick ur rock.so it ain't too bad.lots of water there if u wanna take a little walk.
fishweewee 08-19-2004, 05:08 PM I'm with the NIBula. ;)
About the crowds, yes it can get crowded at certain popular spots, but to be honest Montauk is a huge place. There's plenty of room to fish elsewhere if you don't mind hoofing it.
