Well, I was east of you guys and there are fish everywhere exploding on bait. I took my boat and went with a couple other CC's in a pack and we spred out but were in sight of each other most of the time.

Some awesome explosions, tried like hell with spin heavy spin gear but couldn't get one to take it...had one hit.

Snagged a ballyhoo, first time I ever saw a live one!

I heard the sw part of Cape Cod Bay has some nice fish off barnstable...anyone hear about similar reports or fish that area?

I hope to go again this year...I like travelling in a pack like... that makes me a lot more comfortable about going offshore in a CC.

(GB..I had been out Wed and Thur in the sound (taking house guests out bottom fishing mostly) and Fri went tried for tuna with some friends...)

Well Homerun04 and I fished the Hole again yesterday, it was nothing like Thurs. I had one good fish on and lost him while trying to clear the other trolled lines. I only managed one small bonito. There were a good number of charters working the area also but I did not see them land anything.

The highlight was for the second day in a row we had a school of approx 50+ dolphin or porpoises break around the boats, they swam literally right beside us.

I'd be interested in joining the pack on Labor day weekend if the weather is good. Got my penn 8500 ss spooled up with 50 lb braid and ready to go.

Fish On.

I'm pretty certain Homerun04 and myself and possibly one other boat will head out to the Hole at some point this weekend. Just have to check the forecast on Friday to choose which day.

I'll almost definately be in the mudhole this weekend, even if its just passing through. Call MakoMania on either 19 or 66.

back in the 80s people freaked about dolphins in the tuna.
cause the tuna boats would drop their nets under the dolphin pods. Seems the Dolphin like to swim above the tuna schools.

Any truth to that?

If so I bet there were mega tuna down under yer boat and you had no idea :)

MikeT,
For some starnge reason the dolphins only swim above the tuna in the eastern pacific, around here is you see dolhins it only means that there dolphins around.

Yup; thats why they net tuna in the West Pacific now:smash:

Bring cedar plugs, out this way they have been out fishing everything else hands down...you can't find one in a shop anyplace.

I have been eyeballing Friday as a possible offshore day and watching the wind/sea forecast... It is changing nearly every hour, with this possible storm to our south anything can happen.

agree with mako mike friday looks good. mostly swells. headed to the edge if the forecast holds. any wind on that swell and things get ugly quick. keep and eye on it.

I just got back...I turned around. I had my kid with me and while the wind was fine (about 10 Kn) there was a 4-5' swell with the ocassional larger wave and it was just short enough to make it a little uncomfortable in a CC. If I was with my usual (adult) crew and fellow fisherman with me but I would have continued but I got about 5 miles out and said screw it after one of the bigger waves at 6:30am. We turn around and fished inshore for a while. Not much doing there either (surprisingly) and we came home.

Its not "bad" by any means but its not like last week when the wind was 10kn....the ocean was flat then.

there is always another day....

I am sure now that I am back it will lay down now:rolleyes:

That made me laugh.....

Quite a few years ago we were tuna fishing east of Chatham when a school of something, porposies or dolphin, I can't remember now.... anyhow, we climbed onto the bow as we trolled to watch them swim in the bow wave.

With all of the heartfelt emotion I could summons up I exclaimed to my great life-long friends, "God! They are such beautiful animals!" They looked at me a little weary thinking I may try to kiss one of them or something.

Then I yelled out loud, "Let's kill 'em!"

I got the laugh of the day and that story is often retold over a few cold ones....

When we got back from the Mudhole today (about 3:30 pm), we checked out a 10 foot GBFT at Snug Harbor Marina. What a fish.

Don't know all the details but a 40-50' sportfishing boat rolled over in Muskeget channel this morning...people in the water. Saw the state police and heard the hammerhead was on its way with divers.

I don't know if you guy have fished that area (off wasque) but with a swell like this the waves break on either side of the channel and the current honks thru there, you need to have one man on the wheel at all times here.

no, just lots of chatter on the radio this AM. WoodsHole CG seems to be in charge, when I pulled into OB this AM the state police has a couple boats on their way out...large rigid bottom inflatables with twins. The CG was asking for sea conditions.

When the tide goes against the wind there is gets snotty real fast.

(I was there yesterday and turned back...it was only 4-5 yesterday too, todayI hear it is more like 5-7 but I fished inshore this am and was not anywhere near that place....will wait till this blows thru before trying the offshore scene.)

What is bizarre is that place is loaded with bluefish...you can catch them inside, you don't need to take chances)

I can tell you it is worse then 2-3 now...

They claimed they got on a live bluefish at the Mudhole.

I don't doubt the Giant Tuna at the Mudhole. I must have seen 40-50 boats heading that way this morning out of PJ Pond, the word must be out. Unfortunately it was too nasty for me to make the trip.

rhodyflyguy
09-05-2004, 05:46 PM
a guy i normally fish with got out friday, 1 oceanic bonito, a ~100 lb. tuna bitten off by a shark, and a giant mako sighting. it was the biggest he's ever seen.

09-05-2004, 05:54 PM
Bob no I didn't attempt a run out there this morning. I might try tomorrow though but the sea conditions don't look to promising again.

Tuna was over 1100lb caught east of the dump(star) while fishing around floaters.

MakoMike
09-07-2004, 10:12 AM
I can tell you it was some nasty out there yesterday. A six foot south groundswell ans a 3-4 foot east wind chop!

RIROCKHOUND
09-07-2004, 04:58 PM
Still somewhat nasty today..
fished the fingers area from 0700-0930.. not a soul seen, no bait, no hits no runs no errors
Ran back to the mud hole.. banged 4 small BFT's, yummy tuna tonight! Obviously not all were kept...

3-5ft ground swell (SE) with some 6's thrown in plus at one point 15+kts of E wind and chop. this laid down the farther west we went...

3/4 of fish hit small purple/black jet heads, 1/4 hit a full size green ma-chine
