hey everyone, i'm new to the site and was wondering if anyone who regularly fishes Winthrop can help me out in finding a good spot. I live in Revere and surf cast 80% of the time (fly fish the other 20%). Is it better to fish the outer facing shore by Winthop beach (the one with the three large breakers about a 1000 feet offshore), or head out to Deer Island and fish by the Airport? I've caught a few stripers down by the second flagpole on the main beach (where the sand starts) but nothing over 30 inches or so.

I don't fish Winthrop (or the North Shore too much for that matter) but I'd say the water to your north is superior depending on access... There are many points and sections of beach and rock that are littered with more rocks and boulders in through Swampscott and Marblehead that are likely to hold fish. Much of that structure you see where the shore meets the water continue beyond the surfline and that structure holds fish...
