You know, I was So against a Wild card when they 1st wanted to do it. But, I gotta tell you, The wildcard races and the division series has been some of the best baseball in the past few years.

Dad, that's one way to look at it. But if they added more wild card teams, would it be more exciting? I didn't like it then, and I don't like it now. It's a manufactured excitement, like the canned noise you hear at a ballpark today. Too many teams, too many play-off spots and too many inferior ballplayers. There is a lot of lousy ball being played today.

gotta agree with 28 on most of his comments in prior post, at least we have 4 or 5 teams playing good baseball.

SKD's cool, he'll understand. i 've NEVER liked wildcard system(even though it's been the only way the sox seem to play postseason) give me 2 divisions- east and west 7 teams each and let div champs play for pennant. might want to get rid of a few teams while we're at. i still say go sox!

No I think one wildcard is sufficient. Do you think its fair that a team that has a better record than a division winner doesn't make the playoffs.

In other sports like basketball and hockey the division winner gets home court preference but the top 8 teams make the playoffs, why should baseball be any different (granted 8 is to many).

I do agree there are to many teams. Pitching has been thinned out, ERA's are up and pitchers that wouldn't make a team are some teams #3 starter.

There is a lot of lousy ball being played today but the wildcard race always seems like some of the best ball late in the season as of the past few years. 3-4 good teams usually seperated by 2-3 games. a lot more fun than a division leader out in front by 12 1/2 this time of year. In the National league the Divisions are pretty much done, although the Giants have an outside chance of catching the Dodgers because they still have 6 games against them. But there are 5 teams within 3 games of the wildcard, THAT should make for some good september ball.

Canned noise you get everywhere across all sports. If you want to stop that we need to stop naming things like Fleet Center, Gillette Stadium, 3Com Park and other commercialized names. As long as corporate america want to advertise via sports we are going to have canned noise.

I'll agree to disagree with you. I liked the pennant races the way they were. Win your division and you're in the playoffs, regardless of your record. That's fair. Or why stop at the division/conference level? You want to make it the top eight teams (by record) in all of baseball instead of bothering with leagues? By your standards, that would be fair.

The only difference between a league and a conference is how you spell it. It Eastern and Western Conference in the NHL and the NBA, its American and National football Conference in the NFL, and its the American and National League in MLB. You need that seperation to have your Championship series.

My Standards are that I want to see some good Baseball and ,as I stated before that I wasn't a fan of it at 1st, The wildcard has done just that. There is some interesting and exciting baseball going on in september.

The wildcard also offers the opportunity to have Playoff series like the Yankees/Red Sox or the Giants/Dodgers where that would never have happened before, where they are in the same division.

You also have to remember that after the strike year in '94 a lot of people didn't give a crap about baseball. With more teams competing for playoff spots AND playoff series, like the Yanks/Sox, has rekindled a lot of interest in the sport.

Sometimes change is good and sometimes its not. I think that the wildcard has helped baseball. I still hate Interleague Play but the wildcard has worked.

All in All I will agree to disagree with you :D
