Has anyone put the TracRac on their pickup truck. I just got a new pickup and am seriously thinking about putting racks on the back instead of a cap.
These racks seem pretty flexable as far as usability and the fact that they are aluminum and won't rust is appealing.
They will be used mostly for canoes, kayaks, my rods and the occasional ladder
Any opinions pro or con are greatly appreciated.
I'd get a cap... you can sleep in the back, you can tint the windows and lock up all your gear so its out of sight, your stuff wont get wet, i think a cap reduces drag so you might see better gas mileage... but thats just my opinion..
oh and caps look cool too:D

I put a cap on my sled, cos people get confused about what does and does not belong to them. But you haveta consider what the truck will be mostly used for. If you're haulin' tall stuff a cap is a PIA. You can always add a roof rack for rods to a cap tho. It just goes back and forth and comes down to personal preferences.

although they may seem conveinent they are pretty much unstable under heavy loads. if you are just using them for homeowner type stuff they should be fine but if you plan on using them for heavy loads on a regular basis i would not reccomend them. i got a roofer buddy who had them and in about a year they would shake front to back without any load. look in the parking lot of home depot or what not and find a truck w/ them on and give em a shake. i think that will answer your ?.
good luck.
p.s. i dont know where you are but Lynn Ladder in ma. had the best prices on all types of racks
i have them on my f-250 and i love them. if i need to, i can take them off or push the rear rac to the back of the cab. make sure to keep the tracs lubed up though.

I also prefer a cap for sleeping and storage safety. With the sliding glass in the cab, I can easily put 10-footers in the back of my 6 foot bed when I need to leave the truck somewhere.
Also, it keeps all of your gear out of the rain.
But if you need to keep your bed open, then a rack is a good way to go. I see guys flying down the beach with rods just banging lose around in the bed...can't be good for the blanks :smash:
